Rathkeale GAA Club Notes:

Irish Wire Products Ltd County Senior Football Championship:
It’s back to the big ball this weekend, with all roads leading to Askeaton on Friday evening, with Rathkeale searching for their first win, when they take on Na Piarsaigh, with a throw in time of 6.15pm. Rathkeale have had a difficult start to Senior football, but they equally have played the strongest two teams in the group, suffering a defeat in the opening round to Monaleen, and losing out narrowly to Adare in round 2, having played well. Hopefully the games from here on will be some bit easier, with still plenty to play for. Best of luck to the players and management as they continue with their preparations for Friday evening, hopefully you can come out and support the lads!

Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Hurling Championship Group 2:
After a fantastic start to the Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Hurling Championship, the lads enjoyed a fantastic comeback against Ahane in the opening round. In round 2, Rathkeale put in another determined display, winning on scoreline of 2-11 to 1-12 against Bruff in Ballingarry. However, rounds 3 and 4 have proved bumpy, suffering two defeats to Garryspillane and Templeglantine last week. With two wins and two defeats, it means that the lads currently lie in 3rd position in the group, and realistically they probably need a result against Castletown Ballyagran in Round 5 to advance to the knockout stages. This final group fixture will be played on the weekend commencing September 11th, details have yet to be finalised. Best of luck to the players and management involved.

Shane Hourigan Memorial Cup:
We would like to give a big shout out to all our members, supporters and sponsors, who turned up in great numbers, to support the recent Shane Hourigan Memorial Cup, to help make the day the great success that it was.
A big thank you to all the kids, who enjoyed a couple of great Bord na nOg matches, which ended up being a draw game between the Blue and the White teams.
Special thanks to all the golden oldies, mixed with a few U15’s, who put in a tremendous performance in the Masters games. These were very enjoyable games, with the White team, captained by Dermot Hourigan, winning on aggregate after scoring 7 goals in the football match. The Blue team will need to study their defence for next year, as the ‘all out attack’ strategy didn’t quite work on the day! It was fantastic to see Helen Hourigan present the cup to Dermot afterwards. Well done to Martin Doherty who officiated the Masters game very well, thankfully he didn’t have too many issues to deal with!
Special thanks also to John Comer of Bloomers, his staff, and volunteers for providing the BBQ and refreshments on the day, they went down a treat!
Some photos enclosed which captured the day. More photos to follow in the coming days, thanks to Edmund Dollery, so keep an eye on our Facebook page. Finally, well done to the committee team, who organised and coordinated the event, and we hope that you all turn up in great numbers again for the 2026 Shane Hourigan Memorial Cup next year.
