Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
 
Senior Hurlers:
Patrickswell were edged out by a late Ballybrown surge in the County Hurling Championship. The game began positively for the ‘Well as Thomas O’Brien hit the net in the 3rd minute after a confident run. His goal was supplemented by points from Mark Carmody, Jack Kelleher and Cian Fitzgerald. The pace of scoring was relatively low and the scoreline was only 1-3 to 0-3 after 15 minutes. Ballybrown equalised with a trio of unanswered points, before Cian Lynch and Jack Kelleher cancelled out more Ballybrown points. The interval score was tied at 1-5 to 0-8. In the early stages of the second half, our neighbours emerged strongly and notched four points to surpass Cian Fitzgerald’s point. In the 38th minute, Diarmaid Byrnes took a brave step to smash home a goal when a point seemed the safer bet. Patrickswell were now level again at 2-6 to 0-12. Cian Lynch and Kevin O’Brien kept the teams inseparable at 2-8 to 0-14 to set up an unpredictable last ten minutes. Ballybrown’s goal in the 51st minutes was a devastating blow to Patrickswell. While Patrick Kirby scored a point, Ballybrown added four insurance points before the final whistle. The result was a 1-18 to 2-9 reverse. Our next match is a critical must-win clash with Ahane on Friday August 29 at 6.30pm in Claughaun.
Junior A Hurlers:
The Junior A hurlers played out an epic draw against Kildimo-Pallaskenry. After ten minutes, we led by 0-5 to 0-2 (Andrew Carroll 0-2, Dayle McDonagh, Paudie Maher and Josh Carey). Andrew Carroll’s penalty and four points from Dayle McDonagh 0-2, Andrew Carroll and Peter Harty had Patrickswell 1-9 to 0-6 ahead on 25 minutes. Our opponents responded with four consecutive points before the interval and trimmed the arrears to 1-9 to 0-10. The first twenty minutes of the second half were neck-and-neck with the sides exchanging six points each (Dayle McDonagh 0-4 and Andrew Carroll 0-2). In the 50th minute, we retained a 1-15 to 0-16 lead. Kildimo-Pallaskenry hit the front with a goal and a point, but Peter Harty and Andrew Carroll equalised at 1-17 to 1-17 apiece. At the start of injury time, Patrickswell led by 1-20 to 1-19 (Dayle McDonagh 0-2 and Andrew Carroll). Kildimo-Pallaskenry seemed to have won the match with two late points and the referee indicated just 30 seconds left from the puckout. Patrickswell launched a final assault and Billy Earls slotted home a beautiful equaliser on the final whistle to great celebration. The scoreline was 1-21 apiece. The next match is on Sunday August 31 at 1.00pm against Old Christians in Crecora.

Junior C Hurlers:
Patrickswell were defeated by a strong Monagea side. Our opponents struck the net twice in the opening quarter to build a 2-1 to 0-3 lead (poinrs from Pa Mann, Des Foley and Owen McNamara). Monagea pushed on with three consecutive points before Des Foley replied in kind. The half-time score was 2-4 to 0-6 for Monagea. At the start of the second half, Des Foley cancelled out two fresh Monagea points before our opponents embarked on a blitz of a goal and four points without reply. By the 50th minute, Monagea led by 3-10 to 0-8. Des Foley helped himself to another two points, but Monagea closed with four additional points. The result was a 3-14 to 0-10 reverse.

Minor Hurlers:
On Wednesday August 27 at 7pm, Patrickswell visit St. Kierans.
Club Lotto:
The Club lotto draw on Monday August 18 was not won. The numbers drawn were 3, 7, 14 and 31. The bonus number was 25. The €50 lucky dips were won by Mary Reidy and Antoinette Holland, while the €20 prizes were claimed by Josie Foley, Kathleen & Richie, Kay Foley, Margo Foster, Marion O’Riordan and Mary Sheehan. This week’s jackpot is €20,000.
