Match Report – Junior A Premier
Crecora Manister 1-17 Tournafulla 1-18
The second round of the Premier Junior Hurling championship was played on Sunday and we were in action against Tournafulla at the Feenagh Kilmeedy grounds. We were hoping to build on the point we gained in the first round. The previous encounter between the sides resulted in a one point win for us so we knew it would be a close game and so it proved.
There was very little between the sides in the first half as the teams traded points. We had 5 different players on the scoresheet in the first half with scores from Jack Dalton, Richard Murphy, Conor Kirby, Cathal O’Neill and Edwin Wixted giving us a slim half time lead on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-7. We were unfortunate to lose Rory Hannan through injury just on HT whistle. Tournafulla turned the deficit over early in the second half and went on to dominate for a spell. They added a goal to stretch their lead to 8 points. At that point our lads dug deep and started to move the ball with greater urgency. Points from Cathal, the recently introduced Niall Conheady and Richard edged us slowly but surely back into the game. The introduction of fresh legs in Niall and Oisin O’Byrne also contributed as we brought the game back level with a cleverly worked goal from Richard when he gathered a cross field ball and skipped past the defence to plant the ball in the net. There was an exchange of points again with Edwin adding a vital score as both teams looked for the decisive score. Chances came at both ends but it was Tournafulla who added the final score. The final whistle sounded soon after. This was a cruel finish for the team who had given so much and recovered from a very difficult position to put themselves in contention to win the game. They have a break now for football championship and will be back in Feenagh in 2 weeks time to face Monagea in the 3rd Round. Squad Ger Kennedy, Rory Hannan, Colm Parnell, Tim Moloney, David Rickard, Thomas Shanahan, James Conheady, Conor Kirby Cathal O’Neill, Mark Shanahan, Jack Dalton, Edwin Wixted, Richard Murphy, Padraig Byrnes, Rian O’Byrne, Sean Keyes, Ned O’Meara, Niall Conheady, Oisin O’Byrne, Ciaran Cusack, Damien Kearney, Mark O’Keefe, Ciaran Humphreys.
