Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Senior Hurlers:
The Senior hurlers suffered defeat in the opening fixture of the County Championship against Kilmallock. The first quarter was competitive as the Balbec built a 0-5 to 0-3 lead (Aaron Gillane 0-1 and Diarmaid Byrnes 0-2). By the 20th minutes, the teams were level at 0-6 apiece as Aaron Gillane added two more points and Diarmaid Byrnes equalised. Kilmallock notched three consecutive points, but Aaron Gillane hit another point to reduce the arrears to 0-9 to 0-7. The decisive period of the match was a flurry of five straight points from Kilmallock before Diarmaid Byrnes and Aaron Gillane responded. The interval score was 0-14 to 0-9.
Patrickswell struggled to eat into the Kilmallock lead and we found ourselves further adrift at 0-20 to 0-12 in the 45th minute (Diarmaid Byrnes and Aaron Gillane 0-2). Patrickswell fought back with three straight points from Diarmaid Byrnes, Aaron Gillane and Jordan Higgins. There were ten minutes left and we trailed by 0-20 to 0-15. Kilmallock neutralised the Patrickswell threat and matched Aaron Gillane’s trio of points to secure a 0-23 to 0-18 win. The next fixture is against holders Doon in Kilmallock on Thursday August 7th at 7pm.
Junior A Hurlers:
The Junior A hurlers fought bravely in a narrow defeat to Ballybricken Bohermore. The match had a whirlwind start as our opponents hit two goals and Peter Harty struck the net also. Andrew Carroll was in excellent form as he struck six points in the first half. Kieran Long’s point meant that Patrickswell were 2-8 to 1-7 behind at half-time.
By the 40th minute, Patrickswell were only two points behind at 2-9 to 1-10 (Andrew Carroll 0-1 and Dayle McDonagh 0-2). The ‘Well were full of confidence as Andrew Carroll 0-2, Barry Foley 0-2 and Dayle McDonagh equalised at 1-15 to 2-12. The game was on a knife edge for the last five minutes. Unfortunately, this was Patrickswell’s high water mark and our opponents found three unanswered points to win by 2-15 to 1-15. The next assignment is on Friday August 8 at 7pm against Killeedy in Feenagh.
Junior C Hurlers:
Patrickswell play Kilteely/Dromkeen on Bank Holiday Monday August 4 at 5pm in Patrickswell. Subsequently, we face Murroe/Boher on Sunday August 10 at 6pm in Boher.
Club Lotto:
The Club lotto draw on Monday July 28 was not won. The numbers drawn were 8, 9, 15 and 16. The bonus number was 30. The €50 Lucky Dips were won by Josh Moloney and Micheal O’Brien, while the €20 prizes were claimed by Anne Marie Russell, Dick Nash, Amy Lane, Fiona Carmody, June Keogh and Margaret & Tom Dundon. This week’s jackpot is €20,000.
