Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:
Senior Hurlers:
The Senior hurlers bowed out of the City League after a semi-final defeat to Na Piarsaigh. The Light Blues had a ferocious start and scored two goals and five points within ten minutes to Patrickswell’s five points (Patrick Kirby 0-2, Kevin O’Brien, Mark Carmody and Eoin Harmon). A further flurry of four consecutive Na Piarsaigh points put our opponents ten points ahead, before Jason Gillane’s point stopped the charge at 2-9 to 0-6.
Na Piarsaigh’s third goal and another two points overshadowed Thomas O’Brien’s point. On the 20 minute mark, the deficit was thirteen points at 3-11 to 0-7. Five straight Patrickswell points from Patrick Kirby 0-4 and Mark Carmody triggered the fightback. Now eight points behind, Patrickswell crept even closer at half-time at 3-13 to 0-16 (Patrick Kirby 0-2, John Murray and Kevin O’Brien).
The first quarter of the second half was delicately balanced, with the team exchanging five points apiece (Patrick Kirby 0-3, Jordan Higgins and John Murray). Na Piarsaigh’s fourth goal seemed to settle the encounter by the 50th minute, with the Caherdavin side ahead by nine points at 4-20 to 0-23 (responses from Kevin O’Brien and Patrick Kirby). A point from Cian Gorman and a Josh Carey goal nudged Patrickswell within five points, but Na Piarsaigh eased themselves to 4-24 to 1-26 win (Patrick Kirby 0-2).
