Na Piarsaigh GAA Club Notes:

Senior Footballers:
Our Senior Footballers made it 2 wins on the bounce following a hard fought, 1-point victory over Monaleen last Friday night. We had some good displays all over the park, most notably Conor McLoughlin and Christy O’Hagan in the full back line along with Evan Sweeney and Evan Egan up front. Kieran Daly came away with the man of the match award, along with a return of 1-05 from play.
The final moments of the game were nervy enough with Monaleen being awarded a contentious penalty. It looked as soft as can be with many vocal protests coming from the Na Piarsaigh sideline. On reflection, and following some consultation with those closest to the action, it turned out that Cackz actually had the Monaleen man in a headlock. So fair play to the ref on that one. James Linnane stepped up to save the Monaleen penalty but for our opponents to slot the rebound.
With a slender 1-point lead, and time almost up, play was stuck inside our own half. Doing our best to keep Monaleen out, the ref suddenly halted the game due to our opponents only having 2 defenders back. He duly brought the play all the way back up to the Monaleen 21. A free in front of the posts that ended up being thrown in and the game blown up. We’ll take that one as it’s possible that we only had 2 up as well. Anyway. Final score: Na Piarsaigh 2-09 Monaleen 2-08

Round 3 of the league sees the lads make the trip to Ballylanders on the 29th of March.
Limerick Senior Hurlers:
Peter Casey made his return to intercounty hurling at the weekend in what was an emphatic Limerick win over Galway. Peter chipped in with a point, having been brought on around the 50 minute mark. Shane did the business in goals, while not making the scoresheet himself, he did keep a clean sheet and built a great platform for Limerick with his pin-point puck outs. William put in a good shift in midfield, while Vince was introduced early for an injured Mike Casey. Mike took a heavy blow to the head after a high challenge from his Galway opponent. We look forward to Mike making a return to action in the coming weeks.
Third Level Success:
JJ Carey added a third level All Ireland medal to his armory following UL’s 1-20 to 19-point win over NUIG last week. The victory in the All Ireland Intermediate final complements the Munster championship he and UL won only a couple of weeks ago.
