Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Middleton 0-5 Mungret St. Pauls 0-7

Huge congratulations to our Senior Ladies Football Team on making history for the club last weekend. They are the first ladies football team to reach a Munster final and they weren’t about to stop there. This team took it one step further and went on to win the Munster final by 2 points.

On Saturday 9th November, Middleton and Mungret St. Paul’s Ladies Football Teams, travelled to the Mallow GAA Complex to compete for the Munster Championship Title.

From the very beginning, the stage was set and it was clear to all in attendance, this game was going to be a low scoring, titanic battle. The first 10 minutes went by scoreless. Middleton tried their best to get two early goals but Mungret’s goalie Carol Bateman had other plans. Mungret’s Gráinne McKenna, put the first score on the scoreboard with a wonderful point from a free. Middleton quickly equalised but thankfully luck was on Mungret’s side after the post denied Middleton another goal chance. Fiona Morrissey and Jayne Casey put Mungret two points ahead heading in at half time with a score of 0-2 to 0-4. The U8s and U10s played at half time which was a welcomed distraction from the ferocious battle that preceded the half time game. Well done to all involved. The second half began and Middleton came out fighting and the teams were level following two quick points from Middleton. However, once again, Mungret’s Gráinne McKenna doing what she does best, put Mungret ahead with another fantastic point. Middleton were given a yellow card with just over 12 minutes to go, meaning they were down to 14 players but they didn’t give up and levelled the game once again. Yvette Moynihan and Claire ‘Nan’ Coughlan made themselves known on the pitch when they came on, scoring a point each. These two scores  inevitably lead Mungret to becoming the Junior Munster Champions. There was an almighty roar from the crowd when the full time whistle blew, a

testament to the sheer determination and hard work shown by the team while simultaneously reflecting the huge number of supporters who travelled to witness history in the making. Captain Áine Ryan lifted the cup, following the presentation of a deserving ‘Player of the Match’ award to Gráinne McKenna. Congratulations to everyone on the team and to the management team. You have done your club and families proud and there is no doubt your successes will inspire the younger teams to come. Many thanks to Mallow GAA Complex for the use of their fantastic facilities, the referee and match officials. Furthermore a huge thank you to everyone who travelled to Mallow to support this team on the day and throughout the year. We would like to wish the girls the very best of luck in their All Ireland Semi-Final scheduled for the weekend of the 30th November.

Well done to the U8 and U10 teams who provided the half time entertainment during the Munster Final.

Well done to our players who represented their school and club today playing on the city team in the Sarsfield football cup semi final against the west. They now play the south next week under lights in the TUS Gaelic Grounds. Well done to Bob Nix, Paidi Mullins, Harry Newman, Tom Traynor and Gearoid Ahern and Best of Luck in the Final. Well done also to Conor Keane who was playing on the East Limerick team on behalf of his school and club, Conors team were unlucky on the day but put up a great game against the South. Well done to all players who wore their divisions jersey a very proud day for you all.

Liam Patterson who is a Liver transplant recipient is holding a fundraising football game in aid of Saint Vincents hospital foundation on St Stephens day as a thank you to the hospital for the care he received while a resident there. Mungret St. Pauls 2-9 Bruff 3-12

With a last minute venue change from Fedamore to Mungret and a slightly later start on Sunday, 17 November 2024 the U-20 Premier Hurlers played Bruff in the Semi Final. The weather made for slippy conditions as the rain visited a few times throughout the sixty minutes.

Mungret St. Pauls started out well getting two points in before Bruff matched these points. The next two points were shared and it was then that Bruff showed their dominance going ahead by two points and matching each of Mungret St. Pauls scores. Bruffs first goal came with just two minutes left in the first half, this is what divided the two sides giving Bruff a four point lead at the break. 0-5 to 1-6

Back out and Bruff pulled ahead even further with their second goal and two points as Mungret St. Pauls struggled to get the ball on target. On the fifth minute Mungret St. Pauls reopened their score and followed up with a second point and then Bruff pushed on again with another two points and their third goal, this left Mungret St. Pauls eleven points behind. With only fifteen minutes left on the clock Mungret St. Pauls found their footing and started to see results with a short puck out and the sliotar worked through the players hands the ball was finished off in the back of the Bruff net, this was accompanied with a point before Bruff came back into scoring action either side of Mungret St. Pauls second goal. Mungret St. Pauls were the last to score with a point from a free but they never gave up the pressure on the Bruff backs with three 65s in a row each shot was landed infront of the goal but unluckily for Mungret St. Pauls nothing came out of all the shots with Bruff bouncing all the attacks back.

Not the day for Mungret St. Pauls with Bruff now going forward to the U-20 Premier Hurling Final.

Well done to our girls who represented their schools and Mungret St. Pauls LGFA today, Thursday 14 November 2024 in the Larkin Shield with the City team going through to the Final after over coming the South in Mick Neville Park.

Best of Luck to our girls in the Final V West in TUS Gaelic Grounds at 6pm on Thursday 21st November.
