Athea GAA Club Notes:
Pitch Maintenance:
The main pitch was sanded recently, with about 80 tonnes of sand, this is an ongoing management requirement to keep the pitch in top condition. There were also a couple of drains put in to solve a wet patch between the main pitch and the top training area.
U10s:
Well done to the U10s who played during halftime at the County final on Saturday.
Minor Championship:
Athea 4-07 Adare 5-09
Our minor ladies hosted Adare on Sunday morning. This was a very competitive match with scores and great pieces of play from both teams Unfortunately Adare got on top in the last quarter and went on to win the game. Our next game will be on Sunday 17th November with the opposition to be confirmed.
U20s:
This championship starts this Saturday with a home game v Askeaton/Ballysteen/Kilcornan in Athea at 2pm. We are joined with Glin and Gerald Griffins for this competition. We will be looking to members of our Junior panel, Daire O Shea, Evan Curry, Calum Buckley, James Hunt, Tomás Ahern, Tadhg Ahern and Rory Cleary, to inspire those around them.
County Final:
Athea 0-05 Cappagh 1-08
We were disappointed to lose the county final on Saturday last to Cappagh in Askeaton. A large crowd travelled to the match to cheer on the team but unfortunately, we didn’t play to our potential on the day. There were good displays from Tommy Quaid, Calum Buckley, James Hunt and Alan Kelly. The team has progressed a good bit this year and hopefully the experience gained will stand to them in the future. With the exception of Gerard Ahern who was appearing in his 4th county final, this was a first final for the rest of the starting team. Subs Martin Chawke, Mark Reidy and Mike Reidy had also played in county finals before.
Team. Gerard Ahern, Eoin Sheahan, Calum Buckley, Tommy Quaid, James Hunt, Alan Kelly, Micheal Dalton, Eoin O Shea, Evan Curry, Jack O Connor, Dylan Griffin, Shane Mulvihill, T.J. Hunt, Andrew O Riordan and Brian O Connor, Subs used, Martin Chawke, Daire O Shea, Jonathan Fitzgerald, Andy Ahern and Mark Reidy. Also Tomás Ahern, Jason Kelly, David O Connor, Mike Reidy, Tadhg Ahern, Cillian O Connor, Rory Cleary and Aiden Curry.
