Patrickswell GAA Club Notes:

Senior Hurlers:
Patrickswell bowed out of the championship with a semi-final defeat to Doon after a remarkable encounter. Doon made a lightning start and scored six points without reply in the first ten minutes. While Aaron Gillane notched our first point of the match, Doon were 0-10 to 0-1 ahead by the 15th minute. Aaron Gillane’s second point was overwhelmed by another Doon barrage of five consecutive points. To the amazement of the crowd, Doon were 0-15 to 0-2 ahead by the 20th minute and looked unstoppable. However, Patrickswell rallied strongly and pounded the East Men with a Patrick Kirby goal and four points from Aaron Gillane 0-2, Diarmaid Byrnes and Thomas O’Brien. Just before half-time, the large gap was trimmed to six points at 0-15 to 1-6. Despite Patrickswell having the momentum, Doon grabbed the final two points of the first half and led by 0-17 to 1-6.
Patrickswell were energetic at the start of the second half and profited from two points from Aaron Gillane and Patrick Kirby. The recovery was upset by the dismissal of Aaron Gillane. Despite the setback, a trio from Diarmaid Byrnes and another point from Evan Fitzgerald eroded the deficit to four points at 0-19 to 1-12. There were ten minutes left and a comeback was still possible. Unfortunately, Patrickswell were unable to score for another ten minutes and Doon plundered two points and two devastating goals to kill off the encounter. The game was beyond reach in the 58th minute at 2-21 to 1-12. While Kevin O’Brien bundled in a goal, Doon replied with three unanswered points to seal a 2-24 to 2-12 win.

Junior A Hurlers:
Patrickswell lost to Monaleen in the semi-final. The ‘Well trailed narrowly by 0-4 to 0-3 after fifteen minutes (Barry Carey and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen had a spell of domination and extended their lead to 0-8 to 0-4 by the 20th minute. Barry Foley’s goal put Patrickswell in touching distance, but an immediate goal and point from Monaleen increased their lead to five points. Calvin Carroll’s brace on the cusp of half-time made the arrears 1-9 to 1-6.
Patrickswell made a terrible start to the second half by conceding a goal almost immediately. However, five points via Calvin Carroll 0-2, Shane Hannon, Barry Foley and Billy Earls kept Patrickswell in the hunt at 2-11 to 1-11 on 45 minutes. A devastating third goal from Monaleen seemed to decide the match, but Patrickswell still had a great chance on 55 minutes at 3-12 to 1-14 adrift (Billy Earls and Calvin Carroll 0-2). Monaleen found an extra gear and scored two points to open a six-point lead at the beginning of injury time. The game was put to bed when Monaleen claimed two goals in two minutes.
