Fr Caseys GAA Club Notes:
Senior County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 2-12 Galtee Gaels 0-06
Fr. Caseys concluded the group phase of the county senior championship last Friday night, taking on Galtee Gales in TUS. Both sides had qualified for the knockout stages prior to the game but victory in this game would give them a second place finish and a slight advantage in the quarter final pairings. The old saying is goals win games and this was never as true in TUS where two early goals from David Ward and Michael Kilbridge inside the opening quarter set the tempo and Fr. Caseys never looked back after that point. The first goal saw David Ward outjump his marker and flick the ball to net after a wonderful pass from captain Daniel Daly when minutes later David Ward was the provider setting up corner back Michael Kilbridge to score from close range. Points from Adrian Enright, Diarmuid Buckley and Eliah Riordan further stretched the lead in the first half to leave Galtee Gaels with a mountain to climb. The half time score was 2-07 to 0-03.
Early second half points from the on form Adrian Enright and Rory O’Brien quickly ended an notions of a comeback. Martin Scannell joined the list of scorers while David Ward and Adrian Enright continued to add to their tally. Galtee Gaels could only manage another 0-03 in the second period from a rock solid Fr. Caseys defence as this contest was well and truly concluded long before the final whistle. Outside of a first round defeat to Newcastle West this has been a flawless championship campaign from Fr. Caseys with lots of high scoring victories along the way. The form guide will indicate the team are peaking at the correct time but as we enter the knockout stages in the coming weeks there will be many more challenges waiting in the long grass. Next up for our Seniors is a meeting with Na Piarsaigh in the County Quarter Final with the date for this fixture to be confirmed. The final score in TUS on Friday was Fr. Caseys 2-12, Galtee Gales 0-06. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the preparations in the coming weeks
Junior A County Championship:
Fr. Caseys 1-16 Cappamore 1-06
Fr. Caseys Junior Footballers are through to the county quarter finals to face local rivals Athea after a commanding 10 point victory over bottom placed Cappamore in their final group game. The damage was done in the first half where the Abbeyfeale men opened a sizeable lead that Cappamore could never regain. Joseph Flaherty and John Boyle will be very content on the response from this group after an opening day defeat to Croom. With Morgan Scannell continuing to dominate in midfield, Eoin McEnery orchestrating the defence and a lively attack lead by Kevin O’Connor and Ronan Quirke they will be confident of challenging any team in what is a very open Junior championship this year. Well done to all involved and best of luck in the preparations in the coming weeks.
