County Minor ‘A’ Football Championship Round 2:
St. Kieran’s 1.11 Athe /Shannon Gaels 2.9
The minor footballers welcomed the Athea/Shannon Gaels combination to Coolcappagh on Sunday evening for round 2 of the County Championship. Both sides had contrasting fortunes in round 1 as we overcame Newcastle West while Athea/Shannon Gaels were defeated by Adare. The opening half was hotly contested with both sides going score for score throughout the half as the away side let by a solitary score at the interval thanks to an early goal to leave the scoreline 1.7 to 0.7. The away side began the second half brightly playing with the assistance on a slight breeze uphill to the dressing rooms. With ten minutes to go we trailed by three points but could count ourselves unlucky having squandered several goal opportunities throughout the game. As the final whistle approached, we pushed hard with scores from Luke Corrigan and Josh Daly reducing our deficit to one before Cathal Daly found the back of the net with a well worked move as we worked the ball up field from defence. It looked as though the two points were all but assured until the away side pounced late on to find the back of the net with a last gasp goal. With added time all but elapsed we couldn’t find the decisive score to tie up the game before the final whistle. Well done to Athea/Shannon Gaels on their victory in what was a very entertaining and well contested game throughout with some excellent passages of play from both teams.

County Minor ‘B’ Hurling Championship Round 1:
St. Kieran’s 0.19 Cappamore 1.6
The minor hurlers got their championship campaign off to the perfect start on Wednesday evening with a comprehensive victory over Cappamore in Coolcappagh. The foundations for victory were laid in the opening half as we build up a five-point lead at half time, 0.11 to 1.3 with Jack O’ Sullivan, Luke Mulcahy and Darragh Mullane looking particularly dangerous up front. The lads put together some excellent passages of play throughout the game working the ball extremely well against a physically strong east Limerick side. At the final whistle we came away with a deserved victory which will be vital if we are to stand a chance of advancing from such a strong group. Next up next Wednesday evening we travel to face another East Limerick side in Pallasgreen in round 2.
