St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
County Senior Football Championship:
Round 1 – St. Kieran’s vs Ballylanders
Saturday June 29 – Ballyagran – 7.30
The 2024 County Championship campaign gets underway this Saturday evening when our senior footballers travel south to take on Ballylanders in Round 1 of the Irish Wire Products County Senior Football Championship. We have been drawn in a very competitive group this year alongside Ballylanders, Monaleen, Na Piarsaigh, 2023 County Finalists Adare and 2023 County Intermediate Champions Mungret / St. Pauls. Both sides will head into Saturday’s game determined to get their respective championship campaigns off to a winning start and secure the all-important two points which are vital if either side aspires of advancing to the knockout stages of the championship. Championship encounters between the two clubs have traditionally been hotly contested. In the most recent meeting in 2022 we emerged with the victory by the slightest of margins, 2.9 to 2.8 having trailed for much of the game only to secure the victory in the closing moments of the game as we advanced to the quarter finals of the championship. In 2023 neither side progressed to the knockout stages of the championship, and they will undoubtedly be determined to get off to a winning start on Saturday. The 2024 season has seen new players emerge as leaders within the panel to fill the void left by the departure of a several influential players after many great years of service to the club at senior level. Saturday’s game promises to be a fiercely contested encounter between two very evenly matched sides. Best wishes to the management team of Mikey Greaney, Patrick Histon, Seamus O’ Donnell, Martin Kelly and team captain Darragh Treacy who leads the team for the 2024 campaign.
West Junior ‘B’ Football Championship:
Following on from their County League success the Junior footballers get their West Championship campaign underway on Tuesday evening when they travel to Ballyhahill to take on neighbours St. Senan’s in round 1. We enter the championship campaign as defending champions following success over Knockaderry in the 2023 decider. While several players will make the step up to the senior ranks there is still a very strong group available for selection for the West Championship campaign. Tuesday’s game throws in at 7.30.
Limerick Masters:
Congratulations to Tony Doyle who has been selected as a member of the Limerick Masters Hurling panel who will compete in the upcoming All Ireland Series. John Doyle is once again a member of the Limerick Masters football panel who are in the middle of their championship campaign.
