Preview:
This is the climax of the 2024 West Limerick Junior B Hurling League and the trophy on offer is the Seamus Flanagan Memorial Cup. Embark on a virtual Voyage from Ballingarry to Boston with Granagh Ballingarry GAA Bord na nÓg!:
The members of Granagh Ballingarry GAA Bord na nÓg are about to lace up their boots, pump up their bike tyres, and set the GPS for an ambitious virtual journey across the Atlantic. That’s right – the Ballingarry to Boston Challenge is here!
Throughout the month of June the entire club from our sprightly under 6s to the seasoned adult teams, along with parents, committee members, and supporters, will unite to log collective 4,667 kilometres – the distance from Granagh Ballingarry Clubhouse to Boston GAA Grounds in Canton, Massachusetts.
Every stride, pedal scout, skip and jump counts in this colossal endeavour.
Our teams are integral dedicated runs into their training session, ensuring that everyone contributes to the transatlantic trek. And for that burst of KM counting, we’re hosting a spinathon at O’Gorman’s and O’Grady’s shops on June 22nd. Here the energetic peddling power of our young members will shine as they inch closer to our Bostonian destination.
Why Boston, you ask? This event builds excitement for the highly anticipated visit from the Boston GAA Féile Football U15 team.
On June 26th, we’ll be hosting a mini blitz of Boston, Ballyagran and Granagh Ballingarry.
Among the coaching staff is Ballingarry native Niall Hanley, uncle to 6 our underage members, who will form part of the 70-strong group from Boston.
It promises to be a festival briming with fun, football and friendship.
We are throwing down the gauntlet to every member of our community to join in.
This isn’t just about logging kilometers; its about embodying the spirit of togetherness, celebrating our love for exercise, and enhancing the camaraderie we’re so proud of in Granagh and Ballingarry.
The sweat and smiles are of course for a number of great causes – proceeds from our efforts will be generously distributed between Granagh National School, Ballingarry National school and the completion of our training pitch.
So, whether you’re a walker, a runner, a cyclist, or an avid rower, gear up for a month of movement that will see our small club making big waves, all the way to Boston!
Get ready, get set… and let’s go the distance, Granagh Ballingarry GAA Bord na nÓg style!
