On this date Sunday 1st March 2020, Limerick Senior Hurlers and Footballers were back in action in Allianz League games, where the Footballers had to make a very long journey to Portlenone in Co Antrim to play Antrim in Division 4 Allianz Football League game Round 5 Limerick had already scored League wins over Waterford, London ,Carlow and Wicklow to sit at the top of the table, while Antrim needed a win to stay in contention for League honours. It was home side who really turned on the power to score a well deserved 2.21 to 1.12, after they trailed at the interval by 1.09 to 0.10, the Limerick goal coming from Padraig Scanlon early in the game, despite the defeat Limerick Limerick are still top of the League Table with 8 points, Antrim on 7, with Wicklow,Sligo and Wexford on 6. Limerick’s next outing is a home game with Wexford while they travel to play Sligo in the Round 7
Meanwhile the Hurlers were in action at home in LIT Gaelic Grounds where they played hosts to Westmeath in Round 5 Division 1, Allianz Hurling League game, with victories over Tipperary, Galway and Cork, with Round 3 v Waterford deferred, Limerick were in confident mood and at the interval led by 0.15 to 0.09. Limerick were reduced to 14 players midway through the second but went on to win by 1.24 to 0.18, David Dempsey the goal scorer late in the game to maintain the unbeaten run and remain in contention to retain the League title.
