MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIP: Monaleen players Andrew La Touche Cosgrave and Jamie Power are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad which will play in this year’s Munster final against Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds this Sunday, June 30, 2pm. Monaleen’s Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach. Best of luck also to Monaleen’s Ronan Lyons who is a member of the Limerick minor hurling squad which has qualified for this year’s Munster minor hurling final and will face Clare also at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday, 11.30am. Ronan has been ultra consistent in defence for Limerick throughout their unbeaten round robin campaign in Munster. Monaleen’s Neil Clifford is the Liaison Officer with the Limerick minor team. MUNSTER FINAL TICKETS: Club members please note that the club has received a much smaller allocation of tickets than expected. Efforts have been continuing in recent days to secure more tickets. A draw for the tickets will take place later this week. Each person whose membership was paid before March 31 and who has requested a ticket will go in the draw for one ticket. This ticket may be for the stand or terrace.
COMMISERATIONS: Commiserations to the Limerick senior footballers who lost out to Westmeath in their All-Ireland qualifier against Westmeath in Mullingar on Saturday night last. Goalkeeper Donal O’Sullivan, of Monaleen, is joint-captain with Limerick this year.
LIMERICK U-20 SQUAD: Congratulations to Monaleen players David Moloney and Conor Nicholas who have been included in the Limerick U20 hurling squad for the upcoming championship. Limerick will play Cork in round one of the Munster U20 championship on Wednesday July 3 in Pairc Uí Rinn at 7.30pm. Best of luck to all.
CLUB DAY POSTPONED: Unfortunately due to the adverse weather on Sunday, a decision was taken to postpone Sunday’s club day. We will revert with new date for this very popular event in due course.
LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on June 20, with the jackpot standing at €12,100. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 12, and 22. Winners of the €50 lucky dips were M/M Ryan, Fairways; D/B Coughlan Schoolhouse Rd; J. Bradshaw, Riverbank; J. Morrissey, @ Hurlers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
SEWING CAMPS: Summer Sewing Camps will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse this year, with Camp 1 running from July 3 to 5 and Camp 2 taking place between August 14-16. Camps run between 10am and 1pm each day. Contact Louise on 086-8147345 for more details.
The Monaleen U12 hurlers who won the Morrissey Cup in Newtownshandrum last weekend
U12 HURLERS: Congratulations to Monaleen’s U12 Hurlers who won the Morrissey Cup in Newtownshandrum on Saturday last. Monaleen beat the hosts in the final after wins against Ballyhea and Ballyduff. Well done to all the players and coaches involved.
U-9 HURLERS: Our U9 Hurlers took part in this years Clarinbridge GAA Club Annual All-Ireland Competition in Galway last weekend. Monaleen fielded two teams and matched the best around for talent. It was a fantastic day and we forged new friendships with clubs from across the country. Looking forward to hosting them during the year. A massive thank you to all we met especially Clarinbridge for their warm welcome and generous hospitality. Our U9’s hurlers will take a break for a few weeks to recharge the batteries but we’ll be back bigger, better, and hungrier end of July.
STREET LEAGUES: The final night of our U6 & U7 football street leagues took place on Monday night. This was a tremendous success with 12 teams and over 110 boys. Our senior footballers presented the medals to the boys and a thoroughly enjoyable few days was had by all. Well done to all involved.
Limerick U-14 Ladies captain Claire Kiely, from Monaleen, is presented the cup by LGFA President Marie Hickey following their All-Ireland U14 Silver Final win over Tipperary in Banagher last weekend
CONGRATULATIONS: Huge congratulations to Monaleen’s Claire Kiely, captain of the Limerick U14 ladies football team which beat Tipperary on Saturday last to win the All-Ireland silver championship final in Banagher.

TERESA WALSH MEMORIAL CUP: On Saturday last, Monaleen Junior team travelled to Kilmallock for the Teresa Walsh Memorial Cup. After two good wins over Murroe Boher and Kilmallock, Monaleen reached the Cup Final where they played Mungret. After a tightly contested match Mungret won by one point on a score line of 1-07 to 1-06. Huge thanks to Kilmallock who organised a great event, which was great preparation for Monaleen prior to the start of the Munster Summer 7s blitzes the first of which kicks off this Saturday in Na Piarsaigh GAA. Good luck to our Junior & U17 teams who will play in this blitz
U13: Monaleen (07) played away to Ballybrown Tuesday, June 18. A tightly contested first half saw the teams level at half time. This young Monaleen team showed their spirit and determination in the second half to pull away. Monaleen’s strong second half saw them win on a score line of 5-08 to 3-04. Monaleen (06) played away on , Tuesday, June 18 to Croagh Kilfinny. A strong first half saw Monaleen well ahead at half time, Craogh Kilfinny battled hard in the second half but Monaleen were too strong and won 5-05 to 4-00. Both Monaleen teams have a bye this week in U13.
U-12: Monaleen Red hosted Granagh Ballingarrry on Thursday, June 20 at Monaleen Clubhouse. Missing a number of players, this team showed great passages of play and skill. They ultimately proved too strong for Granagh Ballingarry. Final score: Monaleen 6-03 Granagh Ballingarry 1-05. Monaleen Reds play at home to Kileedy this Thursday evening, throw in at 7:45pm in Monaleen Clubhouse. Monaleen White played away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday, June 20. This young team played very well but Na Piarsaigh proved too strong.
U10: Our U10 team hosted Crecora on Monday night June in Peafield Road. The U10s then host county cluster blitz in Monaleen Clubhouse on this Saturday, June 29.
U8: Our U8 team hosted Bruff, Ahane and Blackrock Effin for the second county cluster blitz. This was a great morning of camogie and huge thanks to all those who helped out.
U7: Our U7 girls travelled to Adare on Saturday morning to play challenge match. Great camogie and great fun, a good learning experience for this group.
BEST OF LUCK: This Sunday, June 30th, on Munster Final Hurling day Bella Collins (U13) represents Milford School in the Primary School Games at half time in the Munster Final at the LIT Gaelic Grounds. We wish Bella all the best and enjoy the whole experience.
