MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES
CLUB AWARDS: The 2019 Annual Club Awards Night took place on Friday last in the clubhouse. A very large crowd turned out for the event. As in previous years, medals were presented to our underage boys and girls as well as presenting the Club Person of the Year Awards. The Club person of the Year award was presented to Tony Power, while son Daniel Power was presented with the Juvenile Person of the Year accolade by Monaleen GAA Club Chairperson Caroline O’Kane. Well done to the Power family and to the medal recipients as well as the organisers of the very enjoyable evening.( Photograph below)
ALL-COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Monaleen senior footballers defeated Fr Casey’s in Division 1 of the All-County football league at Monaleen’s GAA Grounds on Saturday last on 3-10 to 1-10 scoreline. Well done to all involved.
GOOD LUCK: Well done to Monaleen’s representatives involved in the Limerick senior hurling squad who defeated Laois in the quarter-finals of the Allianz Hurling League at O’Moore Park, Portlaoise on Saturday last. Andrew la Touche Cosgrave, who was introduced as a second half substitute in Saturday night’s game, Lorcan Lyons and Jamie Power are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad, while Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach.
BEST OF LUCK: Best of luck to Monaleen’s Conor Nicholas who is a member of the UL hurling squad which takes on LIT in the All-Ireland Freshers Hurling final in Mary Immaculate College this Wednesday, March 13, at 4.30pm.
ANNUAL FUN RUN/WALK: Monaleen Cancer Support Group are holding their 10th annual 5km/10 km Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, March 24. The start and finish for the event is Monaleen GAA Clubhouse. The 5Km/10Km run starts at 2pm, with the 10Km walk getting underway at 2.15pm. Registration in Clubhouse for all from 11am or online at eventmaster.ie
LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, March 7 with the jackpot standing at €7,500. The numbers drawn were 9, 10, 13 and 25. Winners of €50 lucky dips were J. Cooney, @ Leos; H. Fitzgerald, Ballysimon; T/B Bonfil, Newtown; J. Hogan, Rivers. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs. We will hold the official launch of the 2019 lotto this Saturday. The 2nd lotto draw of the year will take place on the night so there will be no draw this Thursday.
FUNDRAISER: A table quiz which is a fundraiser for our catch nets will take place in Monaleen GAA Clubhouse on this Saturday, March 16 at 8pm. A team of four costs €40. There will be a fantastic raffle and great spot prizes on the night. The quiz will be followed by music and dancing with The Clampers.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP: Club membership is now due and must be paid before March 31. You can pay on-line or to Barry Coffey. Remember only those whose membership was paid in full and on time can be included in the draw for All-Ireland tickets should Limerick go all the way this summer.
