The meeting of Granagh/Ballingarry and Effin in the final round of group stage games in the West Senior Hurling League/Championship at sunny Ballingarry on Friday evening went the way of the home side, Granagh/Ballingarry, with a hard fought 3-point 2-20 to 3-14 victory over gallant Effin.

The final score of this well contested opening half fell to Granagh/Ballingarry’s No 12 Luke Flynn who split the uprights following a good solo run 1 minute into added time to send the boys in black and green in at the interval leading by 6, 1-10 to 0-7. The Effin boys made a dream start to the second half when a long range Thomas Quaid’s delivery ended up in the back of the Granagh/Ballingarry net inside a minute and Ewan Dillon followed up with a well taken point from open play to reduce the deficit to 2, Granagh/Ballingarry 1-10, Effin 1-8 on 32 minutes. Damien O’Donovan extended the Granagh/Ballingarry boys’ advantage to 3 when he split the uprights from a 65 on 34 minutes before Ewan Dillon raised the visitors’ second green flag a minute later to leave the sides level Granagh/Ballingarry 1-11, Effin 2-8 on 35 minutes. The next 9 minutes was all Granagh/Ballingarry with 5 unanswered white flags from open play through Paudie Murphy, Eoin Horgan, Tom Horgan, Damien O’Donovan and Luke Flynn to extend their advantage to 7, 2-19 to 2-11 on 54 minutes. At the final whistle Granagh/Ballingarry were deserving 3-point 2-20 to 3-14 winners.
