Patrickswell GAA Club Notes.

SENIOR HURLERS: Patrickswell face South Liberties in the County Championship quarter-final on Sunday October 7 at 3.45pm in the Gaelic Grounds. Please support the players.

MINOR HURLERS: Our young hurlers produced a remarkable comeback to beat Na Piarsaigh in the Premier Minor Championship semi-final in Rathkeale. The first half began in a very competitive manner. Josh Considine, Calvin Carroll, John Kirby and Patrick Kirby scored Patrickswell’s early points. The teams were level at 0-4 apiece after fifteen minutes. Fresh points from Jason Gillane and Calvin Carroll established a narrow 0-6 to 0-4 advantage, but the ‘Well were pinned back by one goal and a point from the Caherdavin boys. Our players responded strongly with a barrage of three points before the interval and reached the dressing room at 0-9 to 1-5 ahead.

The second half began in worrying fashion for Patrickswell. Na Piarsaigh went on the attack and exploited their possession. By the midpoint of the second half, our opponents had scored seven points in contrast to Patrickswell’s two points. The Light Blues held a commanding 1-12 to 0-11 lead as the match entered its final quarter. Thankfully there was a response from John O’Donnell’s charges as Calvin Carroll (0-2) and Jason Gillane slashed the deficit to a solitary point at 1-12 to 0-14. When Na Piarsaigh increased their lead to two points, it appeared that Patrickswell would struggle to catch them. Remarkably, the game was blown wide open when Jason Gillane equalised with two points and Josh Considine shocked Na Piarsaigh with a low drive into the net. The ‘Well were now leading by 1-16 to 1-13 as the clock ran down to five minutes. Na Piarsaigh pushed forward and scored another point; however their hopes were dashed by late points from Clive Kirby and Cormac Kerins. Patrickswell claimed a famous 1-18 to 1-14 victory and set up a Championship Final against Garryspillane. Well done to the players and management.

JUNIOR A HURLERS: Patrickswell meet Killeedy in the County Championship semi-final in Ballyagran on Saturday October 6 at 2.15pm.
