Kildimo Pallaskenry GAA Club Notes
LIMERICK SENIOR HURLERS: Sensational stuff in Croke Park! Congratulations to Kyle Hayes, Barry O’Connell and all the Limerick senior hurlers on their victory over Cork at the weekend, making an All-Ireland senior hurling final for the first time in 11 years. Faced with adversity, the team kept their heads, did the right thing and got the victory in the end. It was such an impressive performance; it is a real honour to have this group of players as representatives of our county and we are particularly proud of the two lads from our club involved. Congratulations to Ruairí Maher, who is involved in the Limerick backroom team in a performance analysis role; the amount of work that goes in behind the scenes is incredible and Ruairí has also played a big part in Limerick’s run to the final. Bring on the final!
ALL-IRELAND TICKETS: The club are now taking orders for All-Ireland final tickets. We will do our best to accommodate everybody that we can, but preference will be given to full club members and we may not be able to fulfil all orders or requests for specific stands. We are currently taking orders by TEXT ONLY. Please text Sean (087-7526812) or Trish (086-6011049) with your name, number of tickets requested and your preference for stand/terrace.
ALL-IRELAND POC FADA: Best of luck to John Chawke, champion of Limerick and Munster, who is taking part in the All-Ireland poc fada competition next Saturday, August 4 in the Cooley Mountains! After finishing 3rd in the All-Ireland last year, John is a real contender again with a Munster crown in the pocket. He’s been training hard, and everyone at the club would like to wish him the very best of luck and hopefully he can bring some All-Ireland glory back to the parish!
JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 4-22 Monaleen 0-6. Our Seven Sisters-sponsored junior B hurlers opened their Championship campaign in style, with a comprehensive victory over Monaleen. This was a very strong side that took to the field of play; 8 of these players played Intermediate Championship hurling on our run to the title last year, and 13 featured prominently in our League-winning campaign of 2018. Mikey Dillon hit an early long-range score, and full-forward Brendan Meskell reacted quickly to flash a ball to the back of the net. Naoise McGarrigle soon followed this up with another green flag, poking him from close range after the Monaleen goalkeeper (who made numerous saves throughout) had stopped an initial shot. Stephen McKeogh was next to get on the scoresheet before Monaleen scored their first point from play. We then had a long run of scores as we took control of this fixture. Kieran O’Brien got on the scoresheet, before Mikey Dillon hit another point from distance and Chris McMahon fired over smartly. Stephen McKeogh hit 3 of the next four points, one from a ’65 and Matthew Lucey scored his first. Naoise McGarrigle scored from an acute angle, before Chris McMahon fired narrowly over the crossbar and then the experienced Brendan Meskell beat the keeper again for his second goal of the game. A Monaleen point, followed by one from Matthew Lucey saw us lead at half-time: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 3-13 Monaleen 0-2.
We were able to bring on a number of big subs at the break, as some players got a rest and Steven O’Brien made an instant impact, driving over a point from distance. Stephen McKeogh and Adrian Garvey scored points from play, before another substitute, Evan McCarthy, got in beyond the defensive cover and drove the ball into the back of the net.
Monaleen hit another point but this was soon responded to by Chris McMahon, who finished with four from play from centre-forward. Stephen McKeogh and Chris McMahon opened our lead out again before Eoin O’Brien drove over from distance; nice to see Eoin back hurling with the club, he’s not long back in the country. It was like he was never away, he put in an all-action performance in the middle of the field. Monaleen then had points either side of one from Matthew Lucey, as the game kind of died away in the last 15 minutes. But Mossy Sheehan was eager to get on the scoresheet, and scored from out on the right wing before Stephen McKeogh hit another free. A Monaleen free and another long-range point from wing-back Steven O’Brien rounded off the scoring.
It was a fine win but one that you’d expect from such a strong team. They did their business in a calm but composed manner, but will look at plenty of wides and balls dropped into the keeper as areas to improve for the next day! Mikey Dillon had a superb first half, sweeping up a huge amount of ball; as mentioned, Eoin O’Brien and Adrian Garvey covered a lot of ground and our forwards all looked dangerous. In all, we had 12 different scorers which is a huge asset at this level, to have players chipping in with scores all over the park. With a City League title in the bag, we want to really make an impact on the Championship scene in 2018 and this was a fine start! Next up is a match against Mungret in Kildimo on Monday July 30.

MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kildimo/Pallaskenry 5-19 Dromin/Athlacca 0-3. There was a big win for our minor hurlers on Friday night, as they beat Dromin/Athlacca in Pallaskenry. It means they now have four points on the board from a possible four, although that was actually their first game, having received a walkover earlier in the year. This was a great win to get the confidence up; well done to John Barry and his management team of Brian Barry, Brian Butler and Liam Hayes as well as all the players on what was an excellent performance.
