St. Patrick’s GAA Club Notes

Intermediate Hurling Championship:
St Patrick’s 2 21 Croom 3 16

A brilliant victory for our Intermediate hurling team in Croagh on Sunday to guarantee another year at Intermediate level ,and knowing a win against Hospital in the Final round will secure a County Quarter Final.

St Patrick’s were slow out of the traps and Croom goaled after five minutes and were on top in most areas.St Patrick’s gradually found their form and a brilliant Gearoid Hegarty goal and great point taking from both play and frees from Calvin Moran had Saints back in the game. A Second goal following a brilliant run from the Croom midfielder had there team one point ahead at the break and strong favourites backed by the a stiff breeze.

St Patrick’s had different ideas and were not going to make it easy, a big increase in work rate and with Gearoid Hegarty dominating, adding a second cracking goal, Conor Kavanagh immense and Calvin Morans pace causing huge problems , St Patrick’s led by six points going into the final ten minutes. Croom were not done yet and a great goal from an acute angle and an added point had the game back to two. But it was to be St Patrick’s day and the game was closed out in determined fashion despite late pressure with a Croom goal needed. It was a memorable win in Croagh and the second half display especially by all who took to the field and the spirit, determination and fight for the green jersey was a delight to see.
Well done to all players and management, Naomh Padraig Abu.
