MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES .
U-21 HURLING: Monaleen have been drawn alongside Na Piarsaigh, Patrickwell, Kildimo-Pallaskenry and Ahane in the group stages of the 2019 county U-21 premier hurling championship. The competition is due to get underway tonight, Tuesday, February 5, with a game against Na Piarsaigh in Rhebogue, 7.30pm. Best of luck to players and coaches. All support greatly appreciated.
ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE: Well done to the Monaleen contingent involved in the Limerick senior hurling squad who continued their excellent start to the Division 1A Allianz Hurling League campaign on Saturday night with victory over Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds. Andrew la Touche Cosgrave, Lorcan Lyons and Jamie Power are members of the Limerick senior hurling squad, while Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is team coach.
ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Well done to the Monaleen players involved in Limerick’s Allianz Football League Division 4 second round win over Waterford in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Sunday. Donal O’Sullivan is joint-captain with Limerick this year, while he is joined in the squad by Daniel Enright, Luke Murphy, Darragh Kennedy and Brian Donovan.
LOTTO MEMBERSHIP: Our teams of volunteers are hitting the roads this week to collect for our most important source of revenue, the Monaleen GAA Lotto. We are anxious to recruit as many volunteers as possible to help us out. If you can spare a few hours to lend us a hand, it would be greatly appreciated. LOTTO RESULTS: The latest Lotto draw took place on Thursday, January 31 with the jackpot standing at €6,000. The numbers drawn were 5, 7, 13 and 19. Winners of €50 lucky dips were C O’Kane, Mulcair Drive; A. Madden, Kilbane; B. Macken, Monaleen Rd; Ann/Declan @Leos. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.
OT COMMUNITY WALK: The Operation Transformation Community Walk continues to attract large numbers on Monday nights. The walk departs from the Monaleen GAA clubhouse at 7.30pm. A fantastic turn out of more than 100 participants took part in the most recent walk. The evening began with a special warm-up from fitness instructor Anto Mcdonald at 7.15pm. Everyone is invited to participate in these informal walks so come along, up your step count and have some fun!
CONGRATS: Well done to Monaleen players Caoimhe Lyons and Megan O’Mara who are members of the Limerick senior camogie team which defeated Clare 1-14 to 0-10 in the second round of the Littlewoods Ireland Camogie League in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday last.
Castletroy College senior football team members celebrate their Neil McDonnell Cup success
CONGRATULATIONS: Well done to the Monaleen players who were part of the Castletroy College side which won the LIT Sports Limerick Primary Schools Senior Football, Neil McDonnell Cup final, when defeating Hazelwood College, Dromcollogher 3-11 to 1-6 in the decider last week.
GAA CAMP: The Monaleen GAA Summer Camp will take place during week beginning July 8 in Peafield for children aged 5 to 11. Children must have completed st least Junior Infants in primary school. The camp costs will remain the same as last year. Further details in relation registration will be available around Easter time. The club will confirm the date of the Cúl Camp as soon as it is available.
