Monaleen GAA Club Notes
LIMERICK HURLERS: Well done to the Monaleen contingent involved in the Limerick senior hurling team which scored an impressive victory over Waterford in their third outing in the round round robin format in the new-look Munster championship at the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday last. Andrew la Touche Cosgrave and Lorcan Lyons are both members of the Limerick senior hurling squad, while Brian Geary is a selector with the Limerick side and Paul Kinnerk is coach. Limerick face a crucial championship meeting with Clare at Cusack Park, Ennis this Sunday, 2pm.
LIMERICK FOOTBALLERS: Commiserations to Monaleen’s Donal O’Sullivan who captained the Limerick senior football team which lost out to Mayo in their All-Ireland qualifier at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening ending their involvement in the championship. Monaleen player Shane Cusack is also a member of the squad, while our own Barry Fitzpatrick is also strength and conditioning coach with the squad.
BEST OF LUCK: Best of luck to Monaleen’s Daniel Enright who lines out at centre half-back on the Limerick U-20 football team to face Kerry in the Munster championship quarter-final in Newcastlewest this Friday at 7pm.
LOTTO: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €20,000. The draw took place on Thursday, June 7. The numbers drawn were 1, 7, 18, 27. Winners of €50 lucky dips were C Moloney, Schoolhouse Rd; P/G Burke, Heatherdale; G. Walsh, Fairways; G. Grimes, Killonan. Our jackpot remains at its maximum allowed limit of €20,000 and will remain at this level until some lucky winner carries off the Big prize. CLUBHOUSE: The Monaleen GAA Clubhouse will be open from 1.30pm on Sunday for those who didn’t manage to get tickets for Limerick’s big local derby meeting with Clare in the Munster senior hurling championship game in Ennis on Sunday and want to watch the game on TV.

Monaleen’s Feile hurling squad which competed in the National Finals of Féile na nGael last weekend in Galway
U-14 HURLING FÉILE NA NGAEL: After winning the Limerick Division 1 Féile title back in March, the Monaleen boys were proud to represent Limerick last weekend on the national stage in Division 1 Féile held in Galway & Mayo. Monaleen were hosted by the eventual All-Ireland champions Turloughmore Hurling Club from Galway. Turloughmore were most gracious hosts over the weekend for all the Monaleen players & the large contingent of Monaleen supporters. Hopefully this will the start of many games between our clubs in the coming years. Monaleen faced tough opposition in the group stages against Castlegar (Galway), Lucan Sarsfields(Dublin) and our hosts Turloughmore (Galway).
Our boys reserved arguably our best performance of the weekend for the game against the All-Ireland champions Turloughmore before eventually losing out on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-3. On the Saturday afternoon Monaleen headed to Ardrahan for the Division 1 shield quarter final where they played Tynagh-Abbey/Duniry (Galway) in an enthralling encounter before emerging with a victory on a score-line of 3-7 to 2-5.
This qualified the Monaleen boys for a tilt with the famed Cork hurling nursery of St Finnbarr’s on the Sunday morning at the Connacht GAA Centre outside Ballyhaunis in Mayo. After a titantic struggle Monaleen were defeated on a scoreline of 3-5 to 0-3 by the Barrs who went on to win the All-Ireland Division 1 shield later that afternoon.
The final score did not do justice to how Monaleen battled in a closely fought game of hurling. All involved with the u-14 squad would like to thank all the families and supporters who turned out in large numbers over the weekend plus all the people who help ensure that the boys had a truly memorable weekend. Next up is a return this Friday evening to Championship action against our close rivals Doon. Throw-in is 7.45pm at the clubhouse pitch.
The Monaleen U10 football squad which played in the Galbally tournament on Saturday last
U-10 FOOTBALL: On Saturday last, June 9, the Monaleen U10 footballers travelled to Galbally for the Annual U10 football tournament. The weather was fantastic on the day which contributed to some brilliant matches. Our Monaleen boys played Ballylanders, Galbally, Mullinahone, Galtee Gaels and South Liberties to name a few. A big thank you to Galbally GAA for a well run blitz with 40 teams playing on the day, it was an excellent event.

COMMUNITY GAMES: Congratulations to our Community Games hurling team who turned in an excellent display to overcome a spirited Bruff side in the county final played in Croom on Tuesday night. This was a hugely exciting contest from the first whistle until last with Monaleen emerging victorious by four points. We now go forward to represent Limerick in the Munster competition. Huge credit must go to the management team who have worked tirelessly coaching the players since January. Well done to all.
