Fedamore GAA Club Notes
Fedamore took on Monaleen in the opening game of the Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Junior A football championship in Caherconlish Saturday evening.
After a nervous opening Fedamore got on the scoresheet through the boot of Jack Flavin. However, Monaleen were threatening with each attack and their experienced forwards were causing the Fedamore defence problems. A goal mid-way through the first half for Monaleen was unfortunate but Jack Flavin kept Fedamore in touch with some fine scores from play and dead balls. A defensive reshuffle before half time was called for and this helped solve some problems. At the interval we were 7 points down.
The second half started with the Fedamore defence getting on top and combating each attack with great gusto led by Jerry Flavin and Anthony McMahon. Nigel Riordan was causing problems for the Monaleen defence with his ball carrying and Tommy Shinney and Richard Bateman were both covering lots of ground in midfield.
Fedamore fought their way back into the game following great work from Nicky Morrissey carrying the ball deep into the Monaleen defence before eventually passing to Craig McNamara who made no mistake in front of goal. With now only 3 points between the teams a huge upset was on the cards however Monaleen scored a goal with the next attack following some good work of their own. Fedamore never gave up and Padraig Kelleher pounced on a loose ball which was kept in by Shane Keehan and hit the back of the net with 5 minutes to play.
It wasn’t to be our day as referee Michael Browne blew the final whistle and Fedamore lost out by 5 points in the end with a final score line of 2:10-2:15. Our next outing in the newly formed all county Junior A football championship is July 22nd vs Cappamore.
