Croom GAA Club Notes

Official Opening

Last Saturday November 3rd was a historic day for Croom GAA Club. We had the official opening of Phase 2 of our club development-our new clubhouse and floodlit all weather training area. A large crowd attended and it was a wonderful family affair with young and old coming together to celebrate the fantastic facilities. Guests on the day were Patrick O’Donovan TD; Cllr Richard O’Donoghue; incoimg chairman of the Munster Council Liam Lenihan; Limerick GAA chairman John Cregan; former president of the GAA Sean Kelly; club sponsor from the South Court Hotel Pat McGarvey; and other members of the county board were present. Club chairman Richie O’Kelly opened preceedings and each guest said a few words. The overiding feelings were of pride, and joy, but also of thanks to everyone who volunteered, helped out, sponsored, or supported the planning, building and fundraining of these facilities. Without the continued support of all the people of Croom and beyond, we would not have succeeded in our goal. There were mountains of sandwiches, cakes, buns, goodies, tea, coffee, and other drinks. There was great music from the Dunworth and Shanahan family aswell as Kieran Larkin. Johnny Fitzgerald provided a lovely video presentation of photos of the club, and footage of past Croom matches. Up to 30 kids age 7-10 played in exhibition matches on the all weather and the wind and rain that arrived at an inopportube time didn’t stop them as they played away-they really love the all weather! We also had a very special guest as the McCarthy Cup was available for all to get cherished photographs. A lot of work and preparation went into making the day a success and a huge thank you and well done to all who helped make it such a special day. It truely is something we can all be proud of and lets hope these new facilities can help us bring success back to the banks of the Maigue. Croom Abu!
