JUNIOR HURLING: August 2nd – our East Intermediate Championship Final in Caherconlish against Pallasgreen was fiercely contested, as you’d expect between these two teams. Caherline played the better hurling in the 1st half but were only up by 3 points at half time, our scores coming from Paudie Wixted (2), William Hourigan, Andrew Brennan (3) & Peter Tiernan. Pallasgreen had a strong start to the 2nd half, putting 4 unanswered points on the board in 9 minutes, to lead by 1 point. Caherline struck for the only goal of the game 10 mins in, thanks to some great midfield play to get the sliothar into Andrews hand and he made no mistake. Two more points from Andrew gave us a 4 point lead with 17 left to play. We kept our noses in front up to the 26th min, when Pallas pulled level; one more score each was all we had time for, the game ending a draw.TEAM: M Moloney, W O’Keefe, P O’Keefe, D Murnane, T O’Keefe, A Power, D Power, D Corbett, K Wixted (0-01), P Wixted (0-02), W Hourigan (0-01), Js Enright, J Carroll (0-01), A Brennan (1-06), P Tiernan (0-01). MINOR HURLING: Our Minors are out this coming Tuesday evening, at home to Cappamore, with a 7:30pm throw in.
U-13 HURLING: Caherline U-13’s played Cois Laoi Gaels on Thursday August 2nd in the the U-13 Championship. Cois Laoi Gaels started the stronger and dominated the opening exchanges but the Caherline backs defended well and didn’t concede a score during this period. As the first half wore on Caherline started to get the upper hand and successfully converted their increasing possession into scores and led by 1-3 to no score at half time. In the second half, the match was even enough but Caherline had the useful knack of converting their scoring opportunities whereas Cois Laoi Gaels weren’t as successful with their chances. In the closing stages Tadhg Spencer wrapped matters up for Caherline with two well taken goals. To their credit, Cois Laoi Gaels fought to the very end and the match was a closer affair than the final scoreline would suggest. Full time score was Caherline 3-6 Cois Laoi Gaels 0-3. It was fantastic to see such a big panel of Caherline players togged out on the night and well done and thanks to everyone of them. Panel of players was: Thomas Carroll, Stephen McAnulty, Ben Madden, Sean Partridge, Sean McGrath, Robbie Hehir, Aaron Kearney, Alan Whelan, Niall Connaughton, Kieran Godfrey, Hugh Murnane (1-4), Cathal Kearns, Andy Foley, Jamie Boland, Sam McElligott (0-2), Michael Murnane, Zack Vaughan, Tadhg Spencer (2-0), Josh Halvey, Evan Martin, Padraig McCarthy, Cillian O’Connor, Alex Murnane
