Na Piarsaigh GAA Club Notes

Na Piarsaigh GAA Club Notes

Pride of place this weekend most definately goes to our victorious Senior Hurling team who retained their County crown with a very good performance under lights on Saturday night.

This has been the ambition of these lads since last year to retain the Daly Cup and prove what a good team they are.

Despite conceding a goal at the start of each half the lads showed great maturity to overcome both blows and get some fantastic scores from all over the field.

Level on no fewer than five occasions in the first half it was 4 points from ace midfielder Alan Dempsey and some sharp shooting from Shane Dowling gave us a 3 point lead at the break 0-11 to 1-5

Doon quickly cancelled out our lead with a goal on the resumption but within 7 minutes we raised a green flag of our own with an excellent volleyed goal from David Dempsey following a great pass from Peter Casey.

From there to the finish it was firm control from the lads who got some great scores,

It was David Dempseys turn to be the provider offloading to Adrian Breen following another surging run to crash the ball to the Doon net.

We had some excellent performances with the Dempsey boys Alan and David exceptional on the night

Final score Na Piarsaigh 2-22 Doon 3-10

Massive congratulations to all the panel for their dedication and hard work along with Paul Beary and his management team who work tirelessly.

We now face Tipperary champions Clonoulty Rossmore on Sunday in the Gaelic Grounds at 1pm in the Munster Club semi final.

Team for the record: Podge Kennedy, Jerome Boylan, Mike Casey, Kieran Kennedy, Ronan Lynch, Will O Donoghue(capt), Cathall King, Alan Dempsey, Gordon Brown, Conor Boylan, Shane Dowling, David Dempsey, Peter Casey, Kevin Downes, Adrian Breen. Subs used: Mike Foley, Conor Houlihan, Kevin Ryan

Na Piarsaigh scorers: Shane Dowling (0-12 9f), Adrian Breen (1-02), Alan Dempsey (0-04), David Dempsey (1-01), Peter Casey (0-03)

Our junior B Footballers were in action also over the weekend when they took on Dromcollogher Broadford in the County Junior B semi final in Bruff on Sunday.

It was an even enough opening half where we more than held our own and got some good scores from Pat Gleeson and a fine goal from Cillian Collins to leave only 2 points betweeen the sides 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.

We had many scoring opportunities in both halves but unfortunately left many behind us.

In fairness to Drom Broadford they had some serious experience within the squad and that proved crucial in the second half when the game was tight.

Try as we might we couldnt advance the scoreboard and get those needed scores.

Nevertheless the management team of Micheal Lynch and Brendan Fitzgerald can be proud of the lads on a decent years progress and in particular a City trophy for the cabinet.

Team for the record: Brian Burke, Brian Buckley, Brian Hartnett, Brendan Fitzgerald, Kevin Daly, Ciaran Ryan, John Leahy, Kevin Hodnett, Daragh O Gorman, Mike Roberts, James Daly, Pat Gleeson, Cillian Collins, Graham Culleton. Subs : Christy O Hagan, Cameron DiBenniditto, Conor Stack, Micheal Lynch,

Final Score: Dromcollogher Broadford 2-10 Na Piarsaigh 1-6
