Mungret St. Paul’s GAA Club Notes

Mungret St. Pauls 0-9 Kildimo Pallaskenry 3-15.
Our Junior B hurlers traveled up the road to Clarina on Monday 4 June to play in the City Junior B League final. Kildimo Pallaskenry had a bright start hitting an early point from play before scoring a goal following this up with a pointed free to make it 1-3 to 0-0. Mungret St. Pauls then had our first score through a free, before Kildimo Pallaskenry scored two ‘65s. Mungret St. Pauls hit two more points from play either side of a Kildimo Pallaskenry score.
Mungret St. Pauls had a short period of dominance and were able to tack on a couple of scores, a ’65 bouncing over the crossbar reduced the gap to just four but it was short lived as kildimo Pallaskenry kicked on again before the break. A late Mungret St. Pauls point left the half-time score at Kildimo Pallaskenry 1-9 Mungret 0-6. Mungret St. Pauls hit the first point of the second half, but a Kildimo Pallaskenry free from out the field cancelled that out. Mungret St. Pauls then hit the next point but Kildimo Pallaskenry then got a run of scores and powered home to victory.

On Friday 8 June a generous crowd were seated in the club house as the night got under way by Chairman, Mike O’Connell who was accompanied by Donal Fitzgibbon from the Mungret St. Pauls Development Committee, John Cregan, Limerick County Board Chairman and Mungret St. Pauls secretary, Brian O’Halloran. There was a run down of how the land eventually got to be in our possession after a long 11 years and we would like to acknowledge those on the committee, Margaret Horgan, Geraldine Dee, Jim O’Connor, Donal Fitzgibbon, Raymond O’Hagan, John Furey, Noel Downey and Gerry McNamara for all their hard work.
John Cregan added a few words on the hard work that goes on with the players on the pitches and hopes great things come from Mungret St. Pauls. We were delighted to have a wide number of our sponsors, councilors and politicians present on the night which ended up with a fine spread put together by the Catering Committee which we are thankful to for preparing the refreshments on the night.

Mungret St. Pauls 0-13 St. Patrick’s 3-7
The Mike O’Connell sponsored Junior B Football League Final took place on Wednesday 6 June in Rathbane when Mungret St. Pauls played St. Patricks. They had met each other earlier in the league and Mungret St. Pauls came off the worse from that encounter. Knowing what was ahead of them Mungret St. Pauls were prepared and stood up to St. Patrick’s. In the previous match Mungret St. Pauls pointed 11 times they increased that with 2 more and held St. Patrick’s off to score one lass goal and point which showed an improvement in Mungret St. Pauls game eventhough they came off second place.

Mungret St. Pauls 1-12 Fr. Caseys 2-11
