MONALEEN GAA CLUB NOTES

McGRATH CUP: Congratulations to Monaleen duo of Donal O’Sullivan and Luke Murphy who are members of the Limerick senior football squad in Saturday night’s McGrath Cup final win over Cork at the LIT Gaelic Grounds. Goalkeeper Donal, is joint captain of the Limerick senior football team, while Luke was also involved in the matchday squad for Saturday’s excellent win. It was Limerick’s first time to win the McGrath Cup since 2005.

MUNSTER HURLING LEAGUE: Well done to Monaleen’s Paul Kinnerk and the Limerick senior hurling squad and backroom team on their Munster Hurling League final win over Cork at the LIT Gaelic Grounds on Saturday. Paul Kinnerk is a selctor with the Limerick senior hurling squad this year.

IMPORTANT MEETING: Monaleen GAA Club has grown hugely in membership in recent years. Over time we have met the challenges this presents and have developed and improved our facilities. We now face the challenge of meeting the needs of our growing number of members and teams. The first step in this process is to consult with the various stakeholders and to invite the opinions and thoughts of our members.
We will hold a meeting on Monday night next, January 20 in Monaleen Clubhouse at 8pm and would strongly urge those with an interest in our future to attend.

MEMBERSHIP: Monaleen GAA Club membership is now open and due for 2020. All playing members should pay without delay as there is no cover for any injury sustained in training or matches without membership being paid. The last day for payment for inclusion in any match ticket draws is, as always, March 31st. We appreciate your early attention to this.

GET IRELAND WALKING: Even Storm Brendan couldn’t prevent Monaleen Community from their winning ways! Almost 80 brave souls took to the footpaths of Monaleen on Monday night to participate in the Ireland Lights up / Operation Transformation walks. It was a fun and enjoyable walk, preceded by a guided warm up session from Anton. The walks continue next Monday night, January 20 and we hope see even more of you there.
There is no cost involved and the event is open to all members and non-members. However, no dogs are allowed and all children must be accompanied. Participants are asked to wear high visibility clothing, to bring torches and let’s light up our community. This event was well supported in 2019 and we hope to see as many as possible in 2020.
Following on from last year’s hugely successful ‘Weigh Your Age’ initiative by Operation Transformation, Halley’s CarePlus Pharmacy in the Newtown Centre are inviting people to call in any time, free of charge, to track their progress alongside the Monaleen GAA community walks. They can also address any other topics of a healthy lifestyle in their private consultation room. Contact Halley’s on 061-338730.
