Monaleen GAA Club Notes
SENIOR FOOTBALL: The Monaleen senior footballers lost out to holders Adare in the county senior football championship semi-final in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Friday night last on a 1-5 to 1-4 scoreline. It was an unfortunate end to a highly encouraging season in which 12 players made their senior championship debuts. A bright future lies ahead for this young squad.

U-16 HURLERS: Our U-16 hurlers lost out to Adare in the county Division 1 shield final in Rathbane this Saturday on a 11-1 to 1-6 scoreline.
U-14 FOOTBALL: Our 2018 Gaelic Football season ended on Sunday in Ballyagran with a disappointing defeat to Newcastlewest in the U14 Division 1 County Final. After a slow start in the first half we found ourselves trailing by 0-5 to 0-1 at the interval. A strong second half performance closed the gap to 0-1 with 15 minutes of the second period played. Newcastle West responded with a well taken goal to stretch the gap again. This Monaleen team never gave up and a well taken penalty by Darragh Murray kept the game alive. Both teams traded points after that and a second goal from Newcastlewest in the closing stages of game was a step too far to recover from. Full-time Score: Newcastle West 2-6 Monaleen 1-5. U14 Squad: Muiris O’Dalaigh, Oisin Williams, Tony Power, Leon McMahon, Mark Field, Darragh Langan, Conall O’Duinn (Capt), Ben Hayes, Darragh Murray, Evan Jenkins, Jack Golden, Darragh Clifford, Evan Lacey, Oisin O’Connor, Mark Kinsella, Stephen Kiely, Evan O’Connell, Jack Ryan, Aidan Williams, Harvey Hogan, Scott Lavelle, Patrick Mulkern, Conor Treacy, Oisin Meehan, Alex Carragher, Darragh Lehane, Oisin Toland. Management Team: Joe Langan, Neil Clifford, Andy Lacey, Colm Kinsella.
U-10 HURLING: On Sunday last, October 7 our U10 Hurling squad played host to a blitz with Hospital Herbertstown. With our squad divided into two teams we played two matches each. These matches were highly competitive against strong Hospital Herbertstown teams. Well done to all the boys on their great displays of skill and work rate.
MINOR CHAMPIONSHIP: The minor championship was back after a break and the girls were at home to Ballybrown on Sunday morning. Both teams had 2 wins in the competition so a win was vital. Ballybrown did not have a full team so the game was played 13 aside and later dropped to 12 aside following an injury. What resulted was a disjointed game and while Monaleen were always on top the girls struggled to play with any fluency. At half time Monaleen led 2-1 to nil and the lead could have been a lot more. A similar pattern followed in the second half with Monaleen running out comfortable winners 6-1 to 0-3. Panel: Rachel Shinnors; Lucy D’Arcy; Caitlin Bonfil; Rosin D’Arcy; Aoife D’Arcy; Clodagh Power; Emily O Brien (1-1); Emma Donohoe; Aoife Doyle; Aine Doyle (3-0); Charley Drury; Niamh Moloney; Ellen Regan Magner; Sarah Sheehan; Aoife Nelligan; Saoirse Lane; Ruth Heavey (2-0); Mia O’Halloran; Eimear Morgan.
