Monaleen GAA Club Notes,

SENIOR HURLING: Our senior hurlers had an excellent victory over South Liberties in Group 2 of the county championship at Claughaun GAA Grounds on Saturday last. Monaleen emerged victorious on a 1-17 to 0-14 scoreline, having led by two points, 0-9 to 0-7, at half-time. We have recorded two wins and a draw for our opening three group games to sit on top of the group table with two rounds of fixtures to go. Next up is a game against Murroe Boher on this Saturday evening again at Claughan GAA Club’s Childers Road grounds at 5.30pm. The top two teams in the group will reach the quarter-finals of the county senior hurling championship. All support greatly appreciated.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Our final county championship group game is fixed for Saturday, September 15 v Dromcollogher-Broadford in Kilmallock at 5pm. In an incredibly tight group we’re still in with a chance of qualifying for the quarter-final. All support welcome for this group of players who have had 12 championship debutants so far this year.

JUNIOR A FOOTBALL: We have played 3 games so far with one game left to play against Cappagh on September 16th. We currently sit top of the table and if we win our last game we qualify for the county quarter-final.

MINOR HURLING: Monaleen minor hurlers defeated Killacolla Gaels impressively by 5-24 to 0-8 in the City-South championship in our last group match in Peafield Road this Friday last. We are now due to face Kildimo-Pallaskenry in the City-South semi-final at Claughaun GAA Club this Friday night at 6.30pm. Best of luck to the players and coaches. All support welcome.

LOTTO: There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €20,000. The draw took place on Thursday, August 30. The numbers drawn were 15, 18, 27 and 29. Winners of €50 lucky dips were M. Cregan, Dublin Road; T. Thullier, Peafield; T. Madden, Riverbank; B. Kenny, c/o Hurlers. Our jackpot remains at its maximum allowed limit of €20,000 and will remain at this level until some lucky winner carries off the Big prize. Tickets can be purchased on a weekly basis from local shops and pubs and the draw is held every Thursday night in the club at 10pm.

SYMPATHY: The club would like to extend deepest sympathies to Ger Carew and family on the passing of his brother TJ, of Lissard, Galbally. Following Funeral Mass at Christ The King Church, Galbally on Sunday last, burial took place in the local cemetery. May he rest in peace.

REGISTRATION: Monaleen Juvenile GAA Registration is now open for the 2018/2019 season. The season runs from September 2018 to August 2019. To register please go to www.monaleen.gaa.ie , click on “Club Units” then click on “Registrar – Membership” and scroll down to the “Juvenile Section Club Membership” where you will be able to complete your registrations. All kids training and playing with Monaleen GAA must be registered for safety and insurance purposes.

Monaleen U-14 football squad which defeated Fr Casey’s in the Division 1 county semi-final in Abbeyfeale on Sunday last

U14 FOOTBALL: Our U14 Footballers secured their place in the Division 1 County Football Final with an exciting win over Fr Casey’s in Abbeyfeale on Sunday morning last. The work rate and commitment of the team took us into half time leading 1-6 to 0-3 points. Facing into a stiff breeze in the second half our defensive structure held solid while midfield and forward lines picked off some excellent scores to finish the game 1-11 to 0-6 to the good. Monaleen will now face Newcastlewest in the final at a date and venue to be confirmed. Well done to the playing squad and management team. Camogie

U-16s: Monaleen U-16s began their championship campaign away to Crecora. Despite missing some key players the girls started well and at half time were one point down. The game was tight for the first 15 minutes of the second half but Crecora pulled away in the final quarter to win 1-15 to 2-6. A great effort from Monaleen who should improve over the next few weeks. Next up is a home match on Thursday v Cappamore/Murroe Boher. JUNIOR A: The Junior A girls played their second round match on Sunday on the clubhouse pitch against Tournafulla who are always tough opponents. The first half was tight and finished level at 0-4 each. Monaleen were far stronger in the second half and after an early goal from Ruth Heavey the girls grew in confidence and took some great scores to win 2-9 to 0-6.
