County Intermediate Hurling Championship Round 2:
St. Kierans 1.12 Pallasgreen 1.17
The intermediate hurlers made the journey to Mungret in suburbs of Limerick city on Friday evening for round two of the County Championship. Following the disappointment of the two point loss at the hands of Feenagh/Kilmeedy eight days earlier morale was high within the squad and get our championship campaign back on track against a Pallasgreen side whom we have had fierce battles against over the past three seasons. Fielding the same fifteen with some positional alterations we began the game brightly against the Pallasgreen side buoyed from their round 1 victory over east rivals Cappamore. We led 7-4 after the first quarter having played some excellent hurling with Donie Nolan and Conor McMahon up front causing the Pallas defence several problems. We held a two point lead at the interval which would quickly double to four on the forty minute mark before a major Pallasgreen fightback aided by the assistance of a strong breeze. At this point we began to struggle to win primary possession as the east Limerick side began to grow in confidence throughout the field. In ten minutes there was a seven point swing as Pallasgreen now led by three points going down the final stretch. With five minutes to go Pallasgreen were reduced to fourteen men following the dismissal of All Ireland winner and Púc Fáda champion Colin Ryan for a second yellow card. The subsequent penalty was coolly slotted into the back of the Pallasgreen net by Gavin Thompson and we now trailed by the smallest of margins. Disaster soon struck as we quickly found ourselves trailing by four points once more as Pallasgreen found the back of the net with a long range effort. A further Pallasgreen point increased their lead to five points at the final whistle in what was a major disappointment. With two losses from our opening two games victory is vital in round 3 if we are to maintain our championship involvement. In round 3 we face further east Limerick opposition as we take on Cappamore who rebounded from their opening round defeat to overcome the challenge of South Liberties who join us at the bottom of the group with two losses from their opening two games.

County Premier Junior ‘C’ Hurling Championship Round 2:

The junior hurlers recorded their second win of their championship campaign with an emphatic victory over visitors Drom/Broadford in Ardagh on Sunday evening. Drom’s chances were severely dented following two straight red cards for off the ball discretions and our lads took full advantage of our numerical superiority building up a large scoreline on a night when Luke Mulcahy impressed with a strong personal tally of 2.10 with further goals coming from Conor Colbert, Tony Doyle and Míchael Murphy make his return from an ACL injury. With two games remaining against Crecora and Na Piarsaigh victory in one of those games would ensure qualification to the knockout stages.
