St Kierans GAA Club Notes:
All County League Division 6 Final:
The junior footballers travel to Athea this evening to take on the home side in the All County League final. We come into the game with a disrupted league campaign having only played two games, a loss to Athea in round 1 and a comprehensive victory over Mountcollins in the following round. Walkovers from Ballylanders, Banogue and Castletown / Ballyagran were far from ideal for a young team looking to get as much game time as possible. We face a stern test against an Athea side who have been operating at the higher Premier Junior level in the County Championship over the past number of years. When the two sides met in round 1 at the same venue the home side put in an impressive second half performance to secure the two points on an afternoon where we failed to capitalise on our chances created. Hopefully this evening we can continue our rich vein of form in finals and the junior side can add further county honours to the clubs honours board. This evening’s game throws in at 7.15 in Athea.
All County Hurling League Division 4 Round 5:
St. Kierans 0.18 Pallasgreen 0.15
The intermediate hurlers made the arduous journey to east Limerick on Saturday evening for round five of the County League where Pallasgreen were our opponents. Over the past few seasons both sides have met at championship level and there has been little or nothing to separate the two sides. In our last championship encounter we led by as much as six points mid-way through the second period before a late Pallasgreen onslaught ensured that there was no separating the two sides at the final whistle. Both sides will once again face off again in the County Championship later in the year. We took to the field shorn of the services of several first team regulars due to injury and exams. Despite this the team performed excellently throughout the opening half racing into a five point lead at the interval thanks to scores from Jack O’ Sullivan, Fionn Gleeson, Con Enright, Donie Nolan and Conor Woulfe. The second period was played at equally a ferocious intensity as the east division side fought tooth and nail to reduce their deficit and get back into the game. As ever the marksmanship of Jack O’ Sullivan kept the scoreboard ticking over and our lead in tact while two further second half points from Fionn Gleeson capped off a fine personal performance in the middle of the field. At the final whistle we emerged with a three point victory which not only relieves relegation pressure but also keeps us in contention for a promotion push with two games remaining against Knockainey and 2025 Premier Junior Champions Knockaderry. Next up we welcome Knockainey to Ardagh this Saturday evening in round 6.
