All County Football League Division 1:
St. Kieran’s 2.7 Mungret / St. Pauls 0.10
The senior footballers welcome County Champions Mungret to Pairc Naomh Ciarain, Ardagh on Tuesday evening last for round 3 of the County League. We came into the game with three points following our opening two games following an opening round victory over Adare. This was followed up with a draw in round 2 against Fr. Casey’s having led for much of the game against the Fealesiders. Tuesday’s game was sure to be a huge test for the team. When the two sides met last season in round 5 of the County Championship the city side showed their championship aspirations by putting in a devastating performance on an afternoon in which we simply had no answers. Fielding a strong side we got off to a slow start against the visitors who soon raced into a commanding four point lead. Much to the lads credit they didn’t lose faith and patiently worked their way back into the game. The first of two Liam Kennedy goals got us back into the game and from here we began to grow in confidence throughout the pitch against a lively Mungret side. The pace of the game was extremely high throughout the hour with both sides exerting excellent conditioning. We worked hard throughout the field with Shane Fitzgerald, Darragh Treacy and Joe Reidy performing excellently. Making his first start in goals for the senior side goalkeeper Con Enright put in an excellent performance delivering some excellent kick outs as well as making two excellent saves during the hour which helped to ensure the win. At the final whistle we came away with a three point win against the County Champions to record our second win of the league campaign. The manner of the victory was very pleasing as we recovered excellently following a slow start against a Mungret side who defeated us heavily in 2025. As has been the case throughout the league so far the team has fielded a mixture of youth and experience. Five u21’s started and one introduced with Luke Mulcahy also getting his firs start at this level. Team v Mungret/St. Pauls Con Enright, Luke Mulcahy, Shane Fitzgerald, Mike Shanahan, Fionn Gleeson, Sean Long, Anthony Mullins, Darragh Treacy, John Hayes, Jack O’ Sullivan, Joe Reidy, Michael Long, Alan Daly, Liam Kennedy, Kevin Meade, Oisin Ryan, Darragh Breen, Donie Nolan.

All County Football League Division 1 Round 4:
St. Kierans 2.14 Newcastle West 1.14
In what was our second game in a week we welcomed near neighbours and fierce rivals Newcastlewest to Ardagh on Saturday afternoon for round 4 of the County League. Both sides came into the game with undefeated records from their three games to date. Newcastlewest with three wins from their three outings while we held victories over County Champions Mungret / St. Pauls and Adare and a draw with Fr. Casey’s in round 2. Games between the two clubs at any level are always hotly contested encounters and Saturday’s game continued in this fashion with each side fighting tooth and nail in an intense encounter despite both sides shorn the services of several first team players at present. We fielded a similar side to that which defeated Mungret on Tuesday evening albeit with Donie Nolan returning in goals and Oisin Ryan and Aaron Heffernan coming into the full back. The opening exchanges were very even with both sides working hard to hold possession of the ball. We began to exert pressure on the Newcastlewest defence as the half progressed and were awarded a penalty mid-way through the half. Unfortunately we missed the penalty but our perseverance was rewarded just before the interval as Kevin Meade found the back of the net and we would take a three point lead in at the break. We began to take control of the game in the third quarter with John Hayes and Darragh Treacy exerting dominance in the middle of the field while up front Liam Kennedy continued to be a major problem for the Newcastlewest defence. Jack O’ Sullivan continued his rich vein of form as he raised a green flag for the second time and our lead increased to five points with the final whistle approaching. Newcastlewest refused to wilt and continued to lay siege on our goal as the clocked edged towards the sixty minute mark. Much to our lads credit they stood firm to record our third win of the campaign which puts us in a strong position to qualify for the County League final with one game remaining this Saturday against Monaleen
