St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:

All County Hurling League Division 4 Round 3:
St. Kierans 1.10 Na Piarsaigh 0.14
The intermediate hurlers made the journey to Caherdavin on Saturday evening to take on table toppers Na Piarsaigh in their round three encounter. We came into the game with a 50% record from our opening two games having been defeated by Feenagh / Kilmeedy in round 1 before putting in an excellent performance last time out to overcome the challenge of Hospital / Herbertstown. We faced stiff opposition on Saturday evening against a Na Piarsaigh side who had won their opening two games and would undoubtedly have been strengthened on the night given their senior side had already played on Thursday evening. The opening half was keenly contested between the two sides as we went score for score throughout the half with the free taking of Jack Sullivan once again proving to be excellent. There was no separating the two sides at the break, deadlocked at six points apiece. Missing a number of first team players due to injury at present we found it difficult to secure primary possession up front and were heavily reliant on placed balls for scores throughout the hour with only a solitary point from Cathal McEnery coming from open play. Na Piarsaigh would advance into a four point lead as the final whistle approached before a late Jack Sullivan effort found the back of the net to leave a solitary point separating the two sides down the final stretch. Alas we couldn’t force the decisive score to level the game and at the final whistle despite an excellent hard working effort from our lads it was the home side who recorded their third win in succession to put themselves in pole position for promotion. On Saturday evening we look to get back on track as we welcome Mungret / St. Pauls intermediate side to Ardagh in round 4 where we will look to pick up our second win of the campaign to put ourselves back in the promotion hunt.

All County Hurling League Division 12 Round 1:
St. Kierans 2.16 Knockaderry 2.22
The junior hurlers got their 2026 season underway on Sunday evening as they welcomed Knockaderry to Pairc Naomh Ciarán for the first time in the opening round of the County League. Fielding a team mixed with youthful exuberance and vast experience we found the opening period challenging against a lively Knockaderry side consisting of several players with Premier Junior championship winning experience within their ranks and we trailed 2.15 to 0.4 at the interval. Much to the lads credit they didn’t drop the head and fought extremely hard in the second period to work their way back into the game winning the second half comfortably playing some excellent hurling in the process. A plethora of scores from centre forward Jonathan Ruttle as well as goals from Oisin Ryan and Limerick master’s player Tony Doyle. At the final whistle the away side took home the spoils by a six point margin but overall we can be happy with our effort throughout the hour especially the second half as we grew into the game. Next Monday we welcome Crecora to Ardagh for round 2 where we will be hoping to record our first win of the season. Team v Knockaderry Mike Steele, James Woulfe, Brian O’ Neill, Dan Duggan, William Steele, David O’ Connell, Bryan Sheehan, Jack Dowling, Derry O’ Connor, Con Enright, Jonathan Ruttle, Luke Mulcahy, Mike Upton, Oisin Ryan, Conor Sheehan, Tony Doyle, Billy Breen.
