St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:

All County Football League Division 1 Round 1:
St. Kierans 0.10 Adare 1.3
The senior footballers began their County league campaign on Saturday afternoon with an away tie against Adare. Our League campaign ended in 2025 with defeat to the home side at the very same venue and it was important to get the 2026 season off to a winning start in order to build momentum towards the County Championship campaign in July. We played with the assistance of the elements in the opening half in the midst of Storm David. Both sides deserve great credit for the performance in such challenging conditions. We played with the assistance of a strong wind in the opening half but despite this it was the home side who took the lead into the break 1.2 to 0.3. Our chances were dealt a blow with the loss of both Michael and Sean Long midway through the opening half which saw the introduction of Anthony Mullins and sharpshooter Alan Daly who immediately had a major impact on the game. Despite playing against the wind in the second half we performed better finding it easier to maintain possession of the ball and scores from Daly, Jack O’ Sullivan and Joe Riedy reduced our deficit and saw us assume the ascendency. Going down the final straight we stretched our advantage to four points showing excellent composure on the ball despite fielding a very inexperienced side shorn the services of several first team players due to injury. At the final whistle we emerged with a four point win to secure our first win and points of the 2026 season. The manner of Saturday’s performance was very encouraging with several younger players stepping up from the minor and U20 ranks and getting their first taste of senior football league action while new additions Joe Riedy and Mike O’ Brien got their first outing in a St. Kieran’s jersey. Next Saturday we travel to Abbeyfeale to take on the home side in round 2 where another big performance will be required to overcome a Fr. Caseys side who ended our participation in the 2025 County Championship at the ¼ final stage. Team v Adare Donie Nolan, Mike Shanahan, Shane Fitzgerald, David O’ Connell, Mikey Long (0.1), Aaron Heffernan, Fionn Gleeson, Sean Long, Jack O’ Sullivan (0.1), Joe Reidy (0.1), Cormac Mann, Sean Ryan, Kevin Meade, Conor McMahon, John Hayes (0.2), Anthony Mullins, Alan Daly (0.5), Con Enright, Oisin Ryan, Bryan Sheehan, Chris Kiely, Darragh Breen, Mike O’ Brien, Darragh McMahon.

Munster Minor Football Championship:
Ben Hough is currently part of the Limerick minor football panel who are participating in the Munster Minor Football Championship. Limerick secured an excellent victory over Tipperary in round 1 before a narrow one point defeat on Easter Monday to Clare in which Ben was introduced in the second half. Limerick face off against Waterford in their final round game where victory would assure qualification to the knockout stages. In their two games to date Waterford have secured impressive victories over Clare and Tipperary.
