St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
All County Hurling League Division 4 Round 2:
St. Kieran’s 2.14 Hospital/Herbertstown 0.15
The intermediate hurlers welcomed Hospital/Herbertstown to Pairc Naomh Ciaran, Ardagh on Saturday for round 2 of the County League. Meetings at this level between the two sides have been limited in recent years given the divisional structure of the County League and it was over ten years since we last met in league or championship. Despite it being their first outing of the season the south Limerick club showed no signs of ring rust early on and raced into six point to three lead inside the opening quarter against a youthful Kieran’s side consisting of six u21’s and only two players over the age of 30. We soon found our feet and a quickfire salvo of goals from inside forwards Conor Woulfe and Donie Nolan ensured that we went in at the break leading by two points, 2.6 to 0.10 with further scores coming from Jack O’ Sullivan and Shane O’ Mahony. We were working well throughout the field working the ball into scoring positions and forcing the southerners into mistakes. Mid way through the second half Hospital began to up their level of intensity and fired back with five unanswered scores as we began to lose energy and found it difficult to get our hands on the ball. Further scores from Jack O’ Sullivan from free’s began to reassure us and at the final whistle we came away with a five point victory to secure our first points of the campaign. Attention now turns to two rounds of the County Football League before we return to action in round 3 with an away trip to Caherdavin to take on Na Piarsaigh’s intermediate side who currently sit on top of the league with two wins from their opening two games.
