St. Kierans GAA Club Notes:
All County Hurling League:
The intermediate hurlers begin their 2026 season on Sunday when they travel to take on Feenagh / Kilmeedy in round 1 of Division 4 of the County League. Both sides will be looking to integrate new players into the squad and build towards the upcoming County Championship campaign in August. Sunday’s game throws in at 12pm in Feenagh.
All County Football League Division 6 – Round 1:
The Junior footballers opened their Division 6 campaign against Athea on Saturday afternoon in Athea.
Fielding a very youthful side, St. Kieran’s gave valuable experience to the next generation with eight members of the u20 County Championship winning side starting and four minor players making their adult debuts throughout the hour. The young side showed plenty of determination throughout and will take many positives from the performance.
The first half was a tightly contested affair with both sides exchanging points. Up front scores came from Anthony Molyneaux, Oisin Ryan, Shane O’ Mahony and midfielder Conor McMahon. St. Kieran’s competed well around the middle third and went in at the break trailing by the narrowest of margins, 0-5 to 0-4, leaving everything to play for in the second half.
Athea operating at Premier Junior level gained the upper hand during the third quarter as we struggled to maintain their first-half momentum and found it difficult to get our hands on the ball and build meaningful passages of play. A crucial Athea goal during this period proved to be the decisive score. Despite this setback, we continued to battle and created several goal and point scoring chances but were unlucky not to convert, and on another day could have taken something from the game.
Overall, there was plenty of encouragement from the effort and commitment shown, particularly from the younger players and debutants who performed admirably at this level.
St. Kieran’s now turn their attention to Round 2, where they face Mountcollins in Ardagh on April 5th.
