Rathkeale GAA Club Notes:

Rathkeale End Mungret St Paul’s Winning Run:
Rathkeale brought Mungret St Paul’s unbeaten Group 2 campaign to an end with a deserved 0-15 to 1-9 victory in the final round of the Irish Wire Products Senior Football Championship in Adare.
The win secured a second-place finish for Rathkeale behind Mungret and booked their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Monaleen. The 2024 Intermediate champions produced an impressive display, with Andrew White leading the scoring charts on 0-5, including four points from play.
Mungret opened the scoring after almost six minutes through Bridgeman, before a Mungret free doubled their advantage. Rathkeale soon settled into the contest, with Mikey Morrissey getting them off the mark before Josh O’Connor levelled matters following a patient attacking move.
Mungret restored their lead in the 13th minute, however, Rathkeale quickly gained control. A strong run from Morrissey created White’s opening score, while another Morrissey effort rebounded off the posts and fell kindly for White, who unselfishly squared the ball to Patrick Wilmott. Wilmott’s goal attempt was tipped over by Mungret goalkeeper.
Further scores from Barry Coleman and Andrew Meade, continued Rathkeale’s momentum. White then added his second point as Rathkeale registered five unanswered scores over a dominant 18-minute spell.
Mungret finally halted the run when they found a score, but Rathkeale still held a 0-7 to 0-4 advantage at the interval. Mungret reduced the gap within a minute of the restart, but Rathkeale responded with a fantastic two-point effort from Tommy Dillane. White and Meade followed with further scores to stretch the lead to six points by the 38th minute.
Mungret replied with a point, only for Morrissey to reply in style with a fine right-footed strike. White then added what proved to be a crucial insurance score with fewer than six minutes remaining.
Mungret mounted a late rally, finding two points before striking a goal deep into stoppage time. Despite cutting the deficit to three points, Rathkeale remained in control throughout the closing stages and comfortably secured their place in the knockout rounds with a well-earned 0-15 to 1-9 victory. A fantastic result and well done to all involved.
