Rathkeale GAA Club Notes:
Junior A Hurler Commence Season with a Win:
Well done to the Junior A Hurlers who opened their season with a positive win, when they beat Garryspillane in Bruree on Thursday evening. Rathkeale had a very bright opening half when they led at half time on a scoreline of 1-09 to 1-06, with the goal coming from Barry Coleman. Rathkeale continued to play well in the second half with Barry Coleman striking a further goal, and then set up Patrick Wilmott for a third goal, with Rathkeale winning on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-11. Well done to all involved. Rathkeale will now play Monagea in Newcastle West on Sunday 9th August in round 2, with a throw in time of 7.00pm. Best of luck to all involved.
Senior Football Update:
Our senior footballers still have much to play for after a mixed start in their opening two rounds of the Championship season. In their opening fixture they took on Ballylanders in Kilmallock, in what was a low scoring first half encounter, Rathkeale finally kicked into gear and at the half time interval the scores were level at 0-6 to 1-03, with Ballylanders scoring the goal. Rathkeale were much improved in the second half, scoring some great points, and finally edged out Ballylanders in a hard-fought battle. Mikey Morrissey scored Rathkeale’s goal, with the final score reading 1-17 to 1-13.
In round 2 they took on Kildimo Pallaskenry in Newcastle West, and after a positive opening half they led on a scoreline of 0-09 to 0-5. Rathkeale continued to play well for the opening 10 minutes of the second half, however in the remaining 20 minutes things fell apart for Rathkeale when we shipped 4 goals in quick succession. It wasn’t to be for Rathkeale with the final score reading 0-16 to 4-11. In the early stages, Mungret St Paul’s lead the way on 4 points, with Kildimo Pallaskenry, Adare, Rathkeale and ABK are all sitting on 2 points. Rathkeale’s next fixture is against ABK, currently scheduled for Saturday, August 15th at 3.00pm. Best of luck to all the players and management involved.
Junior C Footballers Enjoy Another Championship Win:
Well done to our Junior C Footballers who enjoyed another Championship win beating Na Piarsaigh in Caherdavin, last Friday on a scoreline of 2-06 to 0-06. Wishing the team and management the very best with their continued good run.
Bord na nOg Update:
The footballers of Cappagh\Rathkeale have enjoyed a few good performances in recent weeks with the U14’s footballers putting back-to-back wins together. Firstly, they beat Monaleen on a scoreline of 6-07 to 1-02, while on Thursday they continued their good run, beating Mungret St Pauls on a scoreline of 4-03 to 2-04.
Our 12 footballers also enjoyed a good outing when they recently played a very strong Monagea, with the team battling until the end. They now play Fr Casey’s on Friday night, with a throw in time of 7.00pm in Cappagh, best of luck to the players and management.

Gerry Molyneaux Remembrance Walk:
Rathkeale GAA Club, along with the Molyneaux family, would like to thank all our friends, supporters and members who turned up in great numbers to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Gerry, with a fantastic Remembrance Walk.
This was a wonderful occasion for the parish of Rathkeale, to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication that Gerry made to Rathkeale GAA Club and the local community over the years.
Thank you to our Chairman, Frank Geary, who made the welcoming address, to John Comer of Bloomers for providing the refreshments. A big thank you to Limerick GAA for loaning us the Minor Hurling All Ireland Cup for the day, and a big thank you to all the volunteers for the planning and prep work on the day. Also, a big call out to Don Flynn, former half forward, who played under Gerry and co on the team of 1984. Don with Plassey Foods, kindly provided the bottled water yesterday.
A final shout out to everyone who turned up and enjoyed the walk, it was great to see so many kids there. Some photos enclosed from the day, feel free to send on more photos to me and we hope to upload another batch in a couple of days.
