Pallasgreen GAA Club Notes:

Junior Ladies Football:
Well done to the Junior Ladies football team who qualified for the county final after a tough and tense battle with Athea in Pallas last Sunday morning. Athea got the better start in the early exchanges and led at the break 1-3 to 0-4. The second half Pallas stormed into the game and took the game to the visitors. A game which was played by two fine sides in slippery conditions after the overnight rain. Pallas took the lead midway through the half after a fine goal from Essie Dillon, Athea hit back with a goal from a penalty, then after a fine move from the forwards Caoimhe Butler hit the net with a wonderful goal. Athea ran out of time to recover and Pallas sealed the narrowest of wins by 3-6 to 3-5. The final takes place on Saturday October 10th against Ahane. Time and venue TBA. U14 Ladies Football Division A Cup Final:
If the standard of underage Ladies football on display last Saturday morning is anything to go by, then the future of the game is certainly in very good hands. Pallasgreen and Ahane served up a thrilling and highly entertaining encounter at St Patrick’s GAA in wonderful autumn sunshine, with the early 10am throw-in doing little to dampen the enthusiasm of both teams. What followed was a classic contest, full of determination, skill, commitment and some excellent scoring.
Ahane made the brighter start and looked dominant in the opening stages, finding the net a couple of times to establish an early advantage. However, Pallasgreen refused to be overawed and responded with great determination, matching Ahane’s efforts and keeping themselves firmly in contention.
The Ahane girls held the advantage at half-time, leading 3-4 to 2-5, but there was little to separate the sides in what had already been a high-quality and entertaining first half. The second half was one for the purists. Both teams showed tremendous spirit and commitment as they battled for supremacy, with the lead changing hands and momentum swinging from one side to the other. Once again, Ahane appeared to have gained the upper hand after adding a number of goals, but Pallasgreen showed tremendous character, refusing to give up and continually fighting their way back into the contest.
Their efforts were rewarded when they brilliantly took the lead by two points with less than ten minutes remaining. At that stage, the excitement among the spectators was palpable, with both teams throwing everything into the contest. What followed was end-to-end football of the highest order, with neither side willing to concede an inch. Eventually, the crucial score arrived when Ahane found the net with just five minutes remaining. That goal put them two points ahead and gave them a lead they would not relinquish.
Pallasgreen tried desperately to respond, and the spirit and determination they showed throughout the game was hugely commendable. However, on this occasion, the Ahane girls held firm to secure a memorable victory.
The final score saw Ahane 7-7, Pallasgreen 4-14, bringing an end to a tremendous and high-scoring encounter. While Ahane deservedly celebrated taking the title, there was plenty of credit to go around. Both teams contributed enormously to what was a fantastic advertisement for underage Ladies football. The skill, courage, determination and sportsmanship shown by the young players should give everyone involved in the game great encouragement for the future. On the evidence of this wonderful contest, the future of ladies football certainly looks bright.
