Pallasgreen GAA Club Notes:
Intermediate Hurling Championship:
A gutsy performance by the intermediate hurlers wasn’t enough to see them progress to the knockout stages of the championship against Feenagh/Kilmeedy last Saturday afternoon in Croom. In a fine game of hurling Feenagh/Kilmeedy with the aid of a stiffest breeze saw them ahead at the break by 1-9 to 1-6. The second period was where the tempo upped and both sides threw everything into battle for supremacy, but it was the westerners who sneaked ahead at one stage by seven points. But credit Pallas who fought back admirably and left the Feenagh side hanging on at the finish. After a frantic last ten minutes Feenagh/Kilmeedy held on the win by 1-21 to 2-16. Team; T McMahon, D O’Dea, PJ Butler, K O’Donnell, R Corbett, T Franklin, N McNamara, N Pearse, M McKenna, Conor O’Dwyer (0-2), P Phelan (0-5), Christian O’Dwyer, O Roche, C Ryan (1-6), K Barry (0-2). Subs used; D Murphy (1-1), T Hourigan, C McMahon, P Franklin.
U14 Camogie Team win Co Plate: Congratulations and well done to the U14 Camogie team who won the Treaty Plate after an impressive win over Crecora in Cappamore last Saturday morning. In a tough game and playing against the wind in the first half they trailed by 3-6 to 2-3. The second half was a different story and with the aid of the wind they excelled in scoring and defending and reduced the opposition to only one point in that period. The final scoreline to much delight read Pallasgreen 8-4 Crecora 3-7. This is the teams 3rd cup in twelve months, winning the Thomand cup last year, the Shannon league and now the Treaty Plate. The group have now gone up 2 levels since last year. A wonderful achievement by a dedicated bunch of girls. Team; Mia Hally, Kayla O’Connor, Juliette McKenna, Saoirse Ryan, Emma King, Eadaoin Butler, Ava King, Molly McConnell, Anna Fennessy, Isabelle O’Dwyer, Ella Hartnett, Grace McMahon, Faye ORiordan, Molly Deere, Lilly Mai Grace. Subs; Kate Hally, Orla Kavanagh, Hannah Grace, Roisin Grace, Edidong Ekong, Ellen Heffernan. Management; John McKenna, Mike Hally, Gillian Deere, Sandra O’Dwyer.
U16 Football:
Well done to the Pallas U16 footballers, who secured their place in the county semi-final following a fine victory over Claughaun in Pallas last Sunday morning. Played on a beautiful autumn morning, the final scoreline may have suggested a comfortable win for Pallas, but full credit must go to Claughaun, who made it a competitive and entertaining contest throughout.
The opening half was a tight affair, with both sides battling hard for possession and scores. Pallas eventually went into the interval with a three-point lead, 1-8 to 1-5, leaving the game finely balanced at half-time. Pallas stepped up their performance considerably after the break, dominating in a number of sectors and playing some scintillating football at times. Their movement, passing and attacking play caused Claughaun plenty of problems, while a strong defensive display restricted the visitors to just three points in the second half.
Pallas continued to build on their lead as the game progressed, with some excellent football producing a number of well-worked scores. By the final whistle, Pallas had run out convincing winners on a scoreline of 4-14 to 1-8.
It was a superb team performance and a well-deserved victory, securing Pallas a place in the county semi-final. Team; James Foley, Eoghan Foley, John O’Dwyer, Ben Bohan, Sean Hourigan, Sean McNamara, Paddy Hourigan, Noah Deere (2-9), Paudie Blackwell (0-2), John Stokes, Elliot Stokes, Conor Hanley (0-2), Nicky Cosgrave (0-1), Jakob Murphy Ryan (1-0), Darragh Lane. Subs; Michael O’Dwyer (1-0), Adam Smalle, Maurice O’Brien, Liam Hourigan
U14 Football:
The U14 footballers went down after a very brave performance away to Belville Gaels in the Shield Quarter final last Saturday. On a miserable morning in Feohanagh they were beaten by a strong outfit, but did themselves proud in the effort. At time of writing the U14 hurlers play Coshlea Gaels in the shield semi final in Pallas
Junior Ladies Football:
Best to luck to the Junior ladies football side who play Athea in the county semi final in Pallas this Sunday morning at 11am. All support would be greatly appreciated.
