Limerick played host to Waterford in a deferred Division 1, Allianz Hurling League Round 3 game at LIT Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening 7th. March, played in front of a crowd of 9,097, both sides were enjoying a good league run, Limerick unbeaten in their previous four outings with wins over Tipperary, Galway, Cork and Westmeath while Waterford had suffered one defeat from their four outings to date, so it was a game where all was to play for and a place in the knock out stages of the League.
The game which was a repeat of the 2019 Division 1, Allianz League Final played in Croke Park almost 12 months earlier, saw Limerick lead at the break by 1.08 to 0.07 The early stages of the second half saw Waterford score the equaliser 1.10 each after 13 minutes of second half play. However in the final quarter Limerick scored some well taken points to secure a well deserved win by 1.21 to 1.17. As a result of the victory Limerick were unbeaten and were into the Allianz League Semi Final.
Little did we know on that Saturday evening as we left LIT Gaelic Grounds, that Limerick Hurlers would Not be back in action again until Sunday 25th.October owing to Covid-19 Lockdown which announced on 12th. March
