Christians begin County Championship Campaign:
Old Christians made the perfect start to their 2026 Woodlands House Hotel County Junior A Hurling Championship campaign with a dramatic 6-8 to 2-19 victory over last year’s beaten county finalists, Templeglantine in a pulsating Group 1 clash in Croagh on Friday evening.
The Rathbane men made a dream start when Kevin Howard burst through the defence straight from the throw-in to fire home the opening goal, the first of a superb hat-trick to help Old Christians establish a 3-7 to 2-7 lead at the interval despite Templeglantine striking for two goals of their own.
The West Limerick side responded strongly after the break, but Brian Cleere produced two crucial goals to keep Old Christians in control, including a brilliant solo effort from a seemingly impossible angle. Leading 5-8 to 2-13 with nine minutes remaining, Christians looked set to hold out until Templeglantine reeled off six unanswered points to edge in front and set up a grandstand finale.
With time almost up, Glenn Hannon’s free caused panic in the square and Darragh Jones reacted quickest to hammer the loose ball to the net from close range, restoring Old Christians’ lead with what proved to be the winning score.
Templeglantine threw everything forward in the closing moments, but the Rathbane men stood firm to secure a deserved victory, with Howard’s first-half hat-trick earning him the Man of the Match award. Old Christians now face Ahane in their second Group 1 fixture next weekend.

Croke Park Trip:
Members of the Old Christians Academy enjoyed a memorable trip to GAA headquarters, where they had the privilege of lining out on the hallowed turf of Croke Park. For many of these talented young hurlers, it is unlikely to be their last appearance on Jones’ Road, with plenty of bright futures lying ahead.
