U13 Division 1 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-5 Na Piarsaigh 3-1
Mungret St. Pauls battled bravely in the U13 division 1 hurling cup final in Mick Neville Park on Saturday 16 May 2026, but despite a determined performance, Na Piarsaigh claimed the title on a final scoreline of 3-1 to 1-5.
The final was a tightly contested encounter from the throw-in with both sides showing great skill, determination and work rate. Mungret St. Pauls started brightly and matched Na Piarsaigh throughout the opening stages, working hard around the field and taking some excellent scores to keep the game finely balanced.
The Mungret St. Pauls defence battled tirelessly throughout, putting in strong tackles and making important clearances under pressure, while further up the field the forwards showed great movement and determination to keep the scoreboard ticking over. A well-taken goal gave Mungret St. Pauls a huge boost and ensured the contest remained alive right to the closing stages.
Na Piarsaigh proved clinical in front of goal and their three majors ultimately made the difference in what was otherwise a very competitive final. Despite the disappointment of defeat, the Mungret St. Pauls players can be extremely proud of their efforts, commitment and teamwork throughout the campaign and in the final itself.
Reaching a Division 1 Cup Final is a fantastic achievement for this talented group of young players and there is no doubt they will have many more big days ahead in the red and white. Credit also goes to the management team and supporters who encouraged the players throughout the competition.
Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-27 Newcastle West 0-13
Mungret St. Pauls produced an excellent all-round performance on Saturday 16 May 2026 as they travelled to Newcastle West and came away with an impressive 0-27 to 0-13 victory in the fifth round of the senior hurling league.
From the opening whistle, Mungret St. Pauls settled quickly into the game and opened the scoring inside the opening three minutes. Although Newcastle West responded soon after, Mungret St. Pauls began to dominate possession and rhythm around the middle third, hitting a superb run of points to take control of the contest.
Sharp shooting and relentless work rate saw Mungret St. Pauls register scores at regular intervals throughout the first half. The forwards were in excellent form, finding scores from play while the defence worked tirelessly to limit Newcastle West opportunities. By the midway stage of the opening half, Mungret St. Pauls had built strong momentum and continued to stretch their advantage with a series of well-taken points.
Newcastle West finished the half with a few scores of their own, but Mungret St. Pauls responded immediately before the break to maintain a commanding lead. At half time, Mungret St. Pauls led 0-12 to 0-4 after an impressive opening 30 minutes.
Mungret St. Pauls wasted little time after the restart, adding an early point. Newcastle West attempted to close the gap with a number of scores early in the second half, but every time the home side threatened to build momentum, Mungret St. Pauls answered with points of their own.
The visitors showed excellent composure throughout the second period, continuing to move the ball well and taking scores from all areas of the field. Their intensity never dropped, and a strong defensive display ensured Newcastle West were forced to work hard for every score.
As the game entered the closing stages, Mungret St. Pauls completely controlled proceedings, adding a succession of late points to cap off an outstanding team performance. The final whistle confirmed a deserved 14-point victory on a scoreline of 0-27 to 0-13.
It was a superb display from Mungret St. Pauls, with hard work, teamwork and accuracy in front of goal proving key throughout the contest as they secured another valuable result in the senior hurling league leaving them sitting at the top of the group with two games left to play.
