Mungret/St Pauls GAA Club Notes:

Limerick Players:
Limerick Camogie Action
Limerick Camogie U16
The Limerick Camogie U16 season came to an end this weekend with the B squad (who have impressed in navigating their way through a really competitive group) battling it out for the All Ireland Development cup title v Dublin Camogie in St Bridget’s GAA Club, Castleknock.
#MSPCamogies Lucy Barry put in an impressive shift throughout the year and again in the final in hot conditions alongside her team mates, but unfortunately Dublin edged their way to the win.
Well done Lucy for making your club proud. Your future in green is indeed bright.
Lucy was supported on the day by her club and county team mates Chloe McAuliffe, Eilish O’Neill and Saoirse Browne (who’s season finished on the 6th April with a win v Cork in Glenroe)
And as always the back room staff in county squads are a really positive influence and driving force for these young athletes and Mungrets Matt O’Sullivan has played a huge part in these girls camogie careers this season from a S&C perspective.
Well done Matt.
He has also left the girls wondering “has this hardy cork man ever NOT worn shorts”?
The Limerick U-20 Hurlers played their last match in the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Wednesday 29 April against Tipperary. Well done to Mungret St. Pauls Sean Duff and Killian Begley who both played well.
A busy morning for the hurling academy on Saturday 2 May 2026 with the U-14s being in UL and in Waterford playing teams from Tipperary, Waterford and Cork. Well done to all the players in their games especially the Mungret St. Pauls players who were divided between the 3 teams Éanna Hehir, Bob Nix, Conor Slavin, Harry Newman, Oisin Purtill and Tom Traynor, also Richie Burke who is a coach with this group.
The U15 were in TUS where they played Clare and Dublin, Mungret St. Pauls had Thomas Slavin, Jack Houlihan, Josh Rohan and Robert Purtill between two panels.
Both limerick 16 squads travelled to Caherlohan, Co. Clare this morning to play Clare. Both teams coming out on top, well done to Mungret St. Pauls players Cian Reilly and Jamie Byrne with Donal Duff on the management.
The Celtic challenge hurlers were in Kilfinane on Sunday 3 May 2026 where they played Wexford in their last group game, they were unlucky to come up short by the final whistle which leaves them into the B quarter final to be against Offaly. Mungret St. Pauls are proud to have Ruairi Dwane and Charlie Tobin on the starting team with Charlie scoring a point.
A fantastic result in the senior hurling clash against Clare on Sunday 3 May 2026, made even more special by a memorable moment for Mungret St. Pauls Fintan Fitzgerald. Introduced on his Championship debut, Fintan announced himself in style—sending over a superb point with his very first touch of the sliotar.

Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-10 St. Kierans 2-7
Mungret St. Pauls came up just short in a hard-fought Senior football league encounter against St. Kierans in Ardagh on Tuesday evening, 28 April 2026 with the home side claiming victory on a scoreline of 2-7 to 0-10.
Mungret St. Pauls made a bright start to the contest, settling quickly and taking control of the early exchanges. A well-taken point from play opened their account, before a superb two-point free pushed them further ahead. Another point from play saw Mungret St. Pauls lead 0-4 to 0-0 inside the opening ten minutes, reflecting their early dominance.
However, St. Kierans responded strongly, and a goal midway through the first half swung momentum in their favour. They followed this with two further points to edge ahead, capitalising on a brief lull in Mungret St. Pauls momentum. To their credit, Mungret St. Pauls regrouped and added a late point to level matters at the break, with both sides tied at 0-5 to 1-2.
The second half began with St. Kierans nudging ahead with an early point, before a crucial period saw them strike for a second goal, followed quickly by another score to open up a gap. This left Mungret St. Pauls with work to do, but they responded with determination.
Mungret St. Pauls showed great character, picking off a series of well-worked points from play and a free to close the deficit to just two points. Their work rate and attacking intent kept them firmly in the contest, but St. Kierans managed to stem the tide with a vital two-point score, stretching their lead once again.
Despite continued pressure and a late point from Mungret St. Pauls, they were unable to break through for the goal that might have turned the game. In the end, St. Kierans’ ability to find the net at key moments proved decisive.
While the result didn’t go their way, Mungret St. Pauls can take plenty of positives from a spirited and determined performance, particularly their strong start and resilience in the second half.
Junior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-12 Fr Caseys 0-9
Mungret St. Pauls delivered an impressive and controlled performance on home soil as they overcame Fr. Caseys in the division 5 Junior football league on Tuesday evening, 28 April 2026.
Played in Mungret, the hosts set the tone early and carried a deserved 0-6 to 0-3 lead into the break. Their work rate around the middle third and sharp shooting up front ensured they stayed on top throughout the opening half, while their defence remained disciplined to limit the visitors to just three points.
On the restart, Mungret St. Pauls pushed on another level. The introduction of pace and direct running caused serious problems for the Fr. Caseys defence, and it wasn’t long before the breakthrough arrived in the form of a well-taken goal. That major score gave the home side a firm grip on proceedings.
A second goal followed as Mungret St. Pauls continued to press with intent, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Their ability to convert chances, combined with a strong defensive display that restricted Fr. Caseys to scores from distance, proved decisive.
Fr. Caseys battled to the end and added to their tally, but Mungret St. Pauls composure and efficiency saw them close out the game comfortably.
A well-rounded team performance from Mungret St. Pauls, with solid defending, dominance in midfield, and clinical finishing up front all contributing to a deserved victory.
U17 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-16 Adare 3-12
Mungret St. Pauls produced a powerful and composed performance to overcome Adare in an entertaining U-17 Division 1 Hurling clash on Wednesday, 29 April 2026 in Adare, running out deserved winners on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-12.
Adare opened the scoring with an early free, but Mungret St. Pauls quickly settled into the game and responded well. Points from play and a well-struck effort from a placed ball saw them edge ahead in the early stages, with both sides trading scores in a competitive opening quarter.
As the first half progressed, Mungret St. Pauls began to take control, showing great sharpness in attack and discipline in defence. A goal midway through the half proved a turning point, giving Mungret St. Pauls valuable momentum. This was backed up by a string of fine points from play and placed balls, as they stretched their lead. Despite Adare keeping in touch with a number of frees, Mungret St. Pauls’ work rate and accuracy ensured they went into the break in a strong position, leading 1-10 to 0-6.
The second half burst into life almost immediately, with Adare finding the net inside the opening minute to reduce the deficit. However, Mungret St. Pauls responded in the best possible fashion with a goal of their own just moments later, steadying the ship and reasserting their control.
Adare continued to battle hard and struck for a second goal, along with a series of points from frees, to keep the contest alive. But Mungret St. Pauls showed great composure under pressure, picking off important scores, including points from placed balls and open play, to maintain their advantage.
The decisive spell came in the final quarter, when Mungret St. Pauls raised two superb goals in quick succession, putting clear daylight between the sides. These scores, combined with continued accuracy in front of goal, ensured they stayed firmly in control despite a late Adare goal.
Overall, this was a high-quality team performance from Mungret St. Pauls, with excellent scoring throughout the pitch and a strong response to every Adare challenge. Their ability to strike for goals at key moments proved crucial in securing a well-earned 4-17 to 3-12 victory.
U13 Division 1 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 5-10 Fr. Caseys 0-6
Mungret St. Pauls produced a dominant display on Thursday evening, 30 April 2026, as they travelled to Abbeyfeale and came away with a comprehensive victory over Fr. Caseys in the U13 division 1 football league.
From the opening whistle, Mungret St. Pauls set a relentless tempo, showing sharp movement, excellent teamwork, and a real cutting edge in attack. Early points settled the side before the first of their goals arrived, giving them a strong platform to build on. Their ability to win breaking ball and transition quickly into attack proved too much for the home side.
Defensively, Mungret St. Pauls were equally impressive, working tirelessly to close down space and limit Fr. Caseys scoring opportunities. The hosts managed to register some scores, but they found it difficult to break through a well-organised Mungret St. Pauls backline.
As the game progressed, Mungret St. Pauls superiority became more evident. A flurry of well-taken goals effectively put the result beyond doubt, with the forwards showing great composure and finishing ability in front of goal. Their point-taking was also clinical, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking over throughout.
Fr. Caseys battled gamely and never dropped their heads, but Mungret St. Pauls strength across the pitch ensured they remained firmly in control from start to finish.
U13 Division 4 Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-3 Cappagh Rathkeale 0-1
Mungret St. Pauls delivered a strong and assured performance on Thursday evening, 30 April 2026 in Mungret, overcoming Cappagh Rathkeale in the U13 division 4 football league.
From the throw-in, Mungret St. Pauls set the tone with sharp passing, determined tackling, and excellent teamwork across the pitch. Their early pressure paid off with some well-worked scores, including two crucial goals that gave them a solid cushion heading into the latter stages of the game.
Defensively, Mungret St. Pauls were equally impressive, working tirelessly to limit Cappagh Rathkeale’s opportunities. The visitors found it difficult to break through a well-organised backline, with Mungret St. Pauls conceding just a single point, which came in the second half.
In midfield, Mungret St. Pauls controlled possession for long spells, supplying quality ball into the forwards who made the most of their chances, finishing with an impressive tally of 2-3.

Junior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 3-3 Monagea 0-18
Mungret St. Pauls endured a frustrating afternoon in Monagea on Saturday, 2 May 2026 as a strong goal-scoring performance wasn’t enough to overcome a clinical Monagea side, who ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-18 to 3-3.
Monagea opened the scoring inside two minutes with a point from play, but Mungret St. Pauls responded in the perfect fashion. A well-worked move led to an early goal on five minutes, giving the visitors a 1-0 to 0-1 advantage and settling them into the contest. However, Monagea quickly found their rhythm, landing a series of points to edge ahead by the ninth minute.
Mungret St. Pauls regrouped and began to work their way back into the game, with a point from play on 20 minutes bringing them level once more. Despite this, Monagea continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over and looked dangerous in attack. Just before the break, Mungret St. Pauls struck a crucial blow—a powerful finish from distance found the net to leave the sides level at 2-1 to 0-7 at half-time.
The second half saw Monagea take control early, adding a point from a placed ball before stretching their lead further with an impressive two-point free. Mungret St. Pauls responded well, with a free and a point from play narrowing the gap, but Monagea’s accuracy from frees and distance scores kept them in front.
As the game entered the final quarter, Mungret St. Pauls once again showed their threat in front of goal. A well-taken free, 25 yards out, landed nicely into the back of the net, pushed them back into contention and left just a point between the sides. However, this proved to be Mungret St. Pauls final score of the game.
From there, Monagea dominated the closing stages, converting a succession of frees and adding points from play to pull away. Despite Mungret St. Pauls determined efforts and their ability to create goal chances, they were unable to add to their tally as Monagea’s consistency in point-taking ultimately proved the difference.
While the three goals highlighted Mungret St. Pauls’ attacking potential, they will rue missed opportunities and the concession of too many scores, particularly from placed balls, as Monagea closed out the game to secure a six-point victory.
