Junior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls: 4-11 Croom: 6-5
A dramatic and high-scoring encounter in Croom on Tuesday evening, 7 April 2026 saw Mungret St. Pauls produce a spirited performance to earn a share of the spoils against Croom in the Junior Football League.
The opening period had been evenly contested, with Mungret St. Pauls well-taken goal keeping them in touch despite Croom’s ability to find the net twice, with Mungret St. Pauls leading 1-6 to 2-1 at the break. The second half burst into life as Mungret St. Pauls upped the tempo significantly. Their work rate around the middle third improved, allowing them to win crucial possession and drive at the Croom defence. This pressure paid off in style, with Mungret St. Pauls rattling in a succession of goals that turned the momentum firmly in their favour.
The forward line was in excellent form, combining sharp movement with clinical finishing to register an impressive tally of 4-11 by full time. Each score was hard-earned, with patient build-up play mixed cleverly with direct attacking football.
However, Croom proved equally dangerous at the other end. Their ability to convert goal chances kept them right in the contest throughout, and despite Mungret St. Pauls dominance for long spells of the second half, Croom’s six-goal return ensured the sides remained level heading into the closing stages. In the end, honours finished even at 4-11 to 6-5 (23 points apiece), a fair reflection of a thrilling contest that showcased the attacking strengths of both sides. Mungret St. Pauls can take plenty of positives from their resilience and second-half display, particularly their scoring power and refusal to back down.
U13 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 2-3 Monaleen 1-6
Mungret St. Pauls U-13 hurlers showed great determination and resilience as they battled to a hard-earned draw against Monaleen in Division 1 action on Wednesday evening 8 April 2026.
Played in Mungret, this was a tightly contested encounter from start to finish, with both sides displaying excellent skill and work rate. Monaleen started brightly and managed to build a slight lead, making the most of their early chances to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
However, Mungret St. Pauls responded with real spirit. Strong defending and tireless work in the middle third helped to turn the tide, while some well-taken scores kept them firmly in the contest. The key moments came in the form of two crucial goals for Mungret St. Pauls, which ultimately proved vital in keeping them level with their opponents.
As the game entered the closing stages, both teams pushed hard for a winner, but it was Mungret St. Pauls determination and never-say-die attitude that ensured they held on, matching Monaleen score for score. At the final whistle, there was nothing to separate the sides, with the scoreboard reading: Mungret St. Pauls 2-3 Monaleen 1-6.

Senior Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-17 Croagh Kilfinny 0-17
Mungret St. Pauls and Croagh Kilfinny played out a gripping and hard-fought draw in the Senior Hurling League in Mungret on Thursday evening, 9 April 2026 with nothing to separate the sides at the final whistle as it finished 0-17 apiece.
The visitors made the brighter start, racing into a two-point lead inside the opening couple of minutes with well-taken scores from play. Mungret St. Pauls settled quickly, however, opening their account on three minutes and gradually working their way into the contest. Scores were exchanged throughout a competitive opening quarter, with Mungret St. Pauls mixing their scoring between play and placed balls to keep in touch.
As the half wore on, Mungret St. Pauls began to find more rhythm in attack. A strong spell in the closing stages of the first half saw them hit four points without reply, turning a one-point deficit into a two-point advantage. At the interval, Mungret St. Pauls led 0-9 to 0-7.
Croagh Kilfinny came out determined after the break and quickly drew level with two early frees. Mungret St. Pauls responded in impressive fashion, producing one of their best spells of the game. Four points in quick succession pushed them clear, and by the end of the third quarter they had built up a four-point cushion, leading 0-16 to 0-12.
At that stage, Mungret St. Pauls looked to be in control, but Croagh Kilfinny showed great resilience. They chipped away at the lead with a series of well-worked scores, gradually reeling Mungret St. Pauls back in. Point by point, the gap closed until the sides were level once again.
The visitors edged in front for the first time since early in the game with a point on 25 minutes of the second half, setting up a tense finish. Mungret St. Pauls continued to battle and were rewarded in the dying moments when a composed free was converted to bring the sides level once more.
There was still time for late drama, but neither side could find the decisive score, and the contest ended all square after a pulsating 60 minutes of hurling.
While Mungret St. Pauls will reflect on the four-point lead that slipped away, there was plenty to admire in their performance, particularly their scoring bursts and resilience under pressure.
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-13 Adare 3-11
Mungret St. Pauls produced a blistering attacking display to claim a five-point victory over Adare in the Senior Football League in Mungret on Saturday afternoon, 11 April 2026 finishing 4-13 to 3-11 in an entertaining and at times dramatic contest.
Mungret St. Pauls made a confident start playing with a strong breeze, opening the scoring with a point from play adding a free shortly after. Another well-worked score pushed them three ahead, and they truly took control by the ninth minute when a clinical goal from play stretched the lead to six.
Adare responded with a couple of scores to steady themselves, but Mungret St. Pauls attacking unit was in relentless form. Points from play kept the scoreboard ticking, before a superb two-pointer highlighted their growing dominance. What followed was a devastating spell—two goals in quick succession midway through the half blew the game wide open, leaving Mungret St. Pauls 3-7 to 0-2 in front.
Further scores from play and a free extended the advantage, though Adare did manage a late goal before the break to give themselves a lifeline. Still, Mungret St. Pauls went in at half time with a commanding 3-9 to 1-2 lead.
Any hopes of an Adare comeback were quickly dented at the start of the second half as Mungret St. Pauls struck for their fourth goal inside a minute, reasserting their control. Points from play followed to push the lead out further, and at that stage Mungret St. Pauls looked to be cruising.
To their credit, Adare refused to lie down. A couple of two-pointers and a well-taken goal helped them claw their way back into contention, reducing the deficit as the second half wore on. Another goal late in the game brought them within five points and added a sense of tension to the closing stages.
However, Mungret St. Pauls showed composure when it mattered most. They steadied the ship defensively and were rewarded with a late free, which effectively sealed the victory and ensured they maintained a safe cushion to the final whistle.
Overall, it was a hugely positive performance from Mungret St. Pauls, particularly in attack where their ability to find the net proved decisive. While there will be some reflection on the second-half concession of scores, their first-half dominance and clinical finishing laid the foundation for a well-deserved win.
U17 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-16 Ballybrown 1-17
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-17 hurlers produced a spirited second-half comeback in Mungret on Sunday evening, 12 April 2026 but ultimately fell just short by the narrowest of margins against a clinical Ballybrown side.
The visitors made a blistering start to the contest, registering a point inside the opening minute before striking for a goal shortly after to take early control. Ballybrown continued to apply pressure, adding further points from play to build an early lead, leaving Mungret St. Pauls with a mountain to climb.
To their credit, Mungret St. Pauls settled into the game and began to find their rhythm. Accurate free-taking kept them in touch, while a well-taken point from play helped lift the home side. However, Ballybrown remained sharp and efficient in front of goal, consistently punishing any lapses and stretching their advantage.
As the first half wore on, Mungret St. Pauls chipped away with a mix of frees and points from play, showing good resilience and work rate across the field. Despite this, Ballybrown finished the half strongly, adding a series of points to leave the interval score at 1-11 to 0-7 in their favour.
Facing a seven-point deficit, Mungret St. Pauls needed a strong response after the break—and that’s exactly what they delivered.
The second half saw a much-improved Mungret St. Pauls performance, with greater intensity and purpose in their play. While Ballybrown added a few early scores to maintain their lead, Mungret St. Pauls began to turn the tide with a series of well-worked points from play, gradually closing the gap.
The turning point came midway through the half when Mungret St. Pauls found the net with an excellent goal from a free, igniting belief among the players and supporters alike. This was followed by a string of points, both from placed balls and open play, as Mungret St. Pauls surged back into contention.
With momentum firmly on their side, Mungret St. Pauls continued to press, showing great composure and determination. Late points brought them within touching distance, and by the closing stages, just a single point separated the sides.
Despite a valiant push in the dying minutes, Ballybrown managed to hold on, edging the contest by 1-17 to 1-16 in what was a thrilling and hard-fought encounter.
While the result didn’t go their way, Mungret St. Pauls can take great encouragement from their second-half display, which showcased their character, skill, and never-say-die attitude. On another day, the outcome could easily have swung in their favour.
