Ladies Football:
Well done to our senior Ladies football team on their win in the first round of the league. They played an away game against Oola on Sunday evening on 29th March. It was a very breezy evening but the sun was shining bright. Mungret played with the wind in the first half and led at half time with the score line reading 3-3 to 0-2. Mungret held onto the lead in the second half and the game finished 4-7 to 0-5. It was a special day for some of the younger players who made their debut playing at senior level. It’s safe to say the future is bright for Mungret Ladies football with the talent these players displayed on Sunday. Our junior team were also out on Sunday but unfortunately it wasn’t their day. They travelled to Galtee Gaels on Sunday morning where the weather conditions were less forgiving earlier in the day. Well done to all our new players who played their first match in the Mungret colours and to our youngers players who played their first game at adult level. Both teams are out again on Sunday 12th April with home games for both teams.
U19 League:
Our minor team played their third round of the U19 league on Sunday 22nd March against Monaleen in Mungret. The girls played some fantastic football and showcased great teamwork which resulted in them coming away with the win on the day. They have now topped their group and will progress to the semi-final stage of the competition which is scheduled for July. Well done to all involved with this fantastic team.
U17 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-12 Na Piarsaigh 5-11
Mungret St. Pauls’ U-17 hurlers put in a determined and spirited performance against a strong Na Piarsaigh side in Division 1 action in Caherdavin on Wednesday evening 1 April 2026.
The opening half was a competitive and well-contested affair, with Mungret St. Pauls matching Na Piarsaigh score for score for long periods. A well-taken Mungret St. Pauls goal helped keep them right in the contest, and a series of fine points ensured they stayed within touching distance. At the break, Mungret St. Pauls trailed by just three points on a scoreline of 1-6 (9) to 2-6 (12), leaving everything to play for in the second half.
Na Piarsaigh, however, came out strongly after the interval and capitalised on their chances, raising crucial goals that ultimately proved decisive. Despite this, Mungret St. Pauls continued to battle hard, showing great resilience and work rate across the pitch. Their determination was reflected in a steady flow of second-half points, but they found it difficult to contain Na Piarsaigh’s attacking threat.
While the final scoreline of 5-11 to 1-12 does not fully reflect the effort and commitment shown by the Mungret St. Pauls players, there were many positives to take from the performance. The team displayed excellent teamwork, skill, and a never-say-die attitude throughout.
U13 Football Division 1:
Mungret St. Pauls 4-4 Newcastle West 0-4
A dominant display from Mungret St. Pauls saw them record an impressive victory over Newcastle West in the U-13 Football Division 1 clash on Thursday 2 April 2026 in Mungret.
From the throw-in, Mungret St. Pauls set the tone with high intensity and sharp attacking play. Early pressure paid off as they found the net to settle any nerves, and this was quickly followed by some well-taken points to build a strong lead. The work rate all over the pitch was excellent, with the forwards clinical and the midfield pairing dominating possession.
Defensively, Mungret St. Pauls were equally impressive, limiting Newcastle West to just four points across the entire game. The backline was well-organised and disciplined, cutting out attacks and turning defence into attack with quick transitions.
The key difference on the scoreboard came from Mungret St. Pauls ability to convert chances into goals. Their four well-worked goals proved decisive, showcasing great teamwork, movement, and finishing ability. Newcastle West battled hard throughout but found it difficult to break down a resolute Mungret St. Pauls defence.
Overall, this was a complete team performance from Mungret St. Pauls, with strong displays in every line of the field. The result reflects their hard work, skill, and determination, and will give them great confidence as the league progresses.
U13 Football Division 3:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-0 Ballybrown 2-3
A spirited performance from Mungret St. Pauls saw them come up just short against a strong Ballybrown side in this U-13 Football Division 3 encounter played in Mungret on Thursday evening.
Played in good conditions, this was a closely contested game throughout, with both sides showing great determination and work rate. Mungret St. Pauls started brightly and worked hard to gain control around the middle third, with some excellent tackling and support play helping them create early opportunities.
Despite their efforts, scores were hard to come by, with both defences on top for long periods. Mungret St. Pauls backline put in a tremendous shift, limiting Ballybrown’s chances and working tirelessly to clear their lines under pressure. However, Ballybrown made the most of their opportunities when they arose, finding the net twice at crucial stages of the game.
To their credit, Mungret St. Pauls never let their heads drop. Their persistence was rewarded with a well-taken goal, which kept them firmly in the contest heading into the closing stages. The team continued to push forward in search of additional scores, showing great heart and determination right to the final whistle.
While the result didn’t go their way, this was a strong and encouraging performance from Mungret St. Pauls, with plenty of positives to build on. The effort, teamwork, and resilience on display will stand to them as the season progresses.
Senior Football:
Mungret St. Pauls 0-8 Monaleen 1-3
A remarkable comeback from Mungret St. Pauls saw them overturn a significant half-time deficit to secure a hard-earned victory over Monaleen in extremely difficult conditions in Mungret on Saturday, 4 April 2026.
Played in “Storm David” conditions, both teams had to contend with strong winds, making free-flowing football very difficult. It was Monaleen who adapted better in the opening half, using the elements to their advantage to build up a 1-3 to 0-0 lead by the break.
Mungret St. Pauls faced an uphill battle, further complicated by two black cards in the first half which overlapped into the second period, leaving them short-handed at a crucial stage. Despite this, the resilience and determination shown by the home side was immense.
The turning point came early in the second half when, even with reduced numbers, Mungret St. Pauls began to find their rhythm. Their defence tightened considerably, denying Monaleen any further scores, while their midfield and forwards worked tirelessly to win possession and drive forward.
Point by point, Mungret St. Pauls chipped away at the deficit. Their accuracy in front of the posts improved despite the tough conditions, and their work rate around the pitch was outstanding. As the game wore on and numbers returned to normal, Mungret St. Pauls seized the momentum completely.
In a superb display of composure and grit, they held Monaleen scoreless for the entire second half while registering eight unanswered points to complete a stunning turnaround.
This was a victory built on heart, discipline, and sheer determination in the face of adversity. Considering the conditions, the half-time scoreline, and the numerical disadvantage, it stands as a hugely impressive result for Mungret St. Pauls.
