U13 Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-7 ABK 3-5
Mungret St. Pauls’ U13 Division 4 hurlers put in a brave and spirited performance in Askeaton on Wednesday evening, 25 March 2026, just coming up short against a strong ABK side in a game that went right down to the wire.
Played at a great pace throughout, this was an excellent contest with both sides showing great skill and determination. Mungret St. Pauls battled hard from the throw-in, working tirelessly across the pitch and taking some fine scores to keep themselves right in contention.
Despite creating several goal chances over the course of the game, Mungret St. Pauls were unlucky not to raise a few more green flags, which could have made all the difference in such a tight encounter. ABK proved clinical in front of goal, and their ability to convert key chances ultimately edged them ahead.
A notable aspect of the game was the physical challenge faced by the Mungret St. Pauls side, with most of the ABK players a year older. However, this did not deter the Mungret St. Pauls players, who showed great heart, resilience, and skill throughout, matching their opponents in every department.
In the closing stages, Mungret St. Pauls pushed hard in search of a winning score, but despite their best efforts, ABK held on for a narrow victory.
While the result didn’t go their way, this was a hugely positive performance from Mungret St. Pauls. The experience gained against older opposition will stand to this talented group, who can take great confidence from their display and look forward to the next outing.

Intermediate Hurling:
Mungret St. Pauls 1-16 Knockainey 3-8

It was Knockainey who made the brighter start, capitalising on early chances and finding the net on three occasions over the course of the first half. Despite this, Mungret St. Pauls remained composed and kept the scoreboard ticking with some well-taken points from play and placed balls. A crucial goal for the home side ensured they stayed in contention, but at the interval it was Knockainey who held a slender lead: Half Timescore; Mungret St. Pauls 1-9 Knockainey 3-4. The second half saw a determined response from Mungret St. Pauls. Tightening up defensively and showing greater urgency around the middle third, they began to gain the upper hand. The work rate across the pitch was evident, with turnovers and strong tackling limiting Knockainey’s scoring opportunities.
Mungret St. Pauls edged ahead through a series of well-worked points, demonstrating patience and accuracy in attack. The defence held firm under pressure, denying Knockainey any further goals in the second period, which proved decisive in the outcome. As the game entered its closing stages, Mungret St. Pauls showed composure and game management to see out the contest, finishing the stronger of the two sides.
This was a spirited and encouraging performance from Mungret St. Pauls, highlighting their determination and ability to respond under pressure. A strong second-half display ultimately made the difference as they claimed a deserved league victory on home soil.

Mungret St. Pauls 3-21 Dromin Athlacca 3-21

Played in good conditions, the game burst into life from the throw-in, with Dromin Athlacca registering the opening score inside the first minute. Mungret St. Pauls responded well, settling into the contest with a series of well-taken points, both from play and placed balls, to edge ahead early on. However, the home side struck a significant blow with a goal midway through the first half, shifting momentum in their favour. Dromin Athlacca followed this with a strong scoring spell, notching a succession of points to open up a gap. Mungret St. Pauls showed great resilience during this period, staying in touch thanks to a crucial goal on 16 minutes and some accurate free-taking. The soft pitch and slightly long grass causing a bit of trouble for the Munget St. Pauls players.
The remainder of the half was played at a high tempo, with both sides exchanging scores. A late surge from Mungret St. Pauls, including a number of well-worked points, reduced the deficit to four by the interval, with the scoreboard reading 1-12 to 2-13 in favour of Dromin Athlacca.
Mungret St. Pauls came out with renewed energy in the second half, quickly adding points from play to close the gap. Their work rate and intensity around the middle third began to pay dividends as they chipped away at the lead. Despite this, Dromin Athlacca remained dangerous and struck for another goal midway through the half to push themselves back into a commanding position. To their credit, Mungret St. Pauls refused to let the game slip. A crucial goal on 25 minutes reignited their challenge, and this was followed by a steady stream of points as they continued to apply pressure.
