MUNGRET ST PAUL’S GAA CLUB NOTES

JUNIOR CAMOGIE
Mungret St. Pauls 0-11 Blackrock Effin 3-5

The Junior Camogie final took place in Bruff in dry but cold weather on Sunday 20 October. This was a tight game with Mungret St. Pauls relying on scores from play as Blackrock Effin struck 3 lucky goals to take the win.

Blackrock Effin had the opening score as they went 2 points up in 2 minutes, Mungret St. Pauls followed up with their first score. Blackrock Effin had scored an easy goal and a point from play in the thirteen minutes it took for Mungret St. Pauls to point a second and third ball as they played into a strong breeze. Blackrock Effin kept on the pressure on Mungret St. Pauls as they added on another goal and two more points before the half time whistle.

The second half was a stronger one for Mungret St. Pauls as they had the breeze this half. It only took 2 minutes for Mungret St. Pauls to open the score again. The ball was played many times to both ends of the pitch as neither side converted any score in ten minutes, the next side to score was Mungret St. Pauls who went 5 points unanswered leaving only a 2 point gap separating the teams. Blackrock Effin kicked up a gear and they scored their last goal and only score in the second half. Mungret St. Pauls tried for goals but they were blocked down and denied, one shot was sent over the bar for a point with the last score of the game coming from a point from the field for Mungret St. Pauls, this was not a strong enough finish for Mungret St. Pauls as they needed goals.

It was a great end to the Junior camogie as it was the first time Mungret St. Pauls went into the junior championship, they will come back next year with experience from this year.

U-15 FOOTBALL
Mungret St. Pauls 2-8 Fr. Casey’s 1-16

On Saturday 19 October in Mick Neville Park our U-15 footballers had a very early start as they played Fr. Casey’s in in the division 1 final. Mungret St. Pauls put in a great game, Fr. Casey’s lead for most of the game but Mungret St. Pauls came back from 5 points down to level the game at the full time which brought the game into extra time. Unfortunately extra time was where the two sides split and Fr. Casey’s took the win.
