PJA Hurling Round 3
Kilteely Dromkeen 3.14 – 2.23 Doon in Cappamore.
Hard luck to our PJA hurlers last night in defeat to Doon in a sunny Cappamore in Round 3 of the Woodlands PJA Hurling Championship.
The pitch was in perfect condition despite the recent drought and set the scene with a very east Limerick feel to this contest.
Doon, last years county finalists had the better of the opening exchanges before Darren struck for a goal from nowhere to help us into the lead.
Scores from Jamie and Brian and a brilliant effort from Robbie on the sideline kept us in touch with a free shooting Doon outfit.
A deceptive breeze was now catching both sides and unfortunately led to some frustrating wides.
A dropped shot led to a scrambled Doon goal before some excellent forward pressure led to us winning a penalty. Brian made no mistake and rifled into the top corner from the spot! We took a deserved lead at the break.
Upon the resumption we entered our purple patch and struck for a 3rd goal with a well taken ground strike from Darragh. Excellent points followed from Darragh, Denis and David. In the ascendancy we built up a 4 point lead and had opportunities to stretch it.
To Doons credit they chipped away the scores and a goal against the run of play brought the game suddenly level. Another fine score from Denis helped us regain the lead. As the game entered the crucial end stage Doon capitalised on the open spaces and failed to hit a wide in their last number of shots. On this occasion we came up short and now have two must win games to look forward to. Thanks to all supporters and players for making the effort to attend the early kick off of a Wednesday.
